I was surprised when I first read this article a few years ago. It was more than amazing to me that I had used this method of pain relief on myself and taught my children to calm fragile nerves or slight pains exactly in this way. Now, I understand more about why it works.
The internal clock stops in later stages of Alzheimer's, which makes it impossible to read the hands on a clock but rather they need a digital clock.

The Fidget quilt can do more than entertain. When someone with Alzheimer's dementia is actively "working," whether it be a game or tool, they are using their brain. I look at it kinda of like exercise for the body. It's exercise for the brain. Has to be a good thing!

I have to say, I find more than a few of them quite entertaining myself. Maybe us folks without Alzheimer's dementia don't realize how easy it is to have fun. Several of these ideas keep me occupied quite easily.
When I learned that my Mom had Alzheimer's, my first trip was to the library. I had no clue what the word meant. All I knew was that Mom could forget anything I said in an instant. And I knew something was wrong besides her hearing.
