In One Word: What Has Dementia Taught You? | Alzheimer's and Dementia Care | Scoop.it
The word that came up the most often may come as a surprise: Patience.
Becky B's insight:

We received answers that spoke of dementia as a thief that steals the person away from the inside out, of caregivers that now have the disease themselves, even of apologizing to spouses now while the person can remember to, just in case. Sandy Williams Spencer's curator insight, March 19, 7:00 AM

Nope! I totally agree. Dementia taught me patience because patience was the only thing that worked with my Mom. If  I tried to rush her, she would only stand and look at me as though I was a tree.

Move slowly and tell them what you're doing if you're assisting someone with dressing, showering, bathing. Patience.
