The copyright industry and Google continues to quibble about online piracy, both in public and behind closed doors. Copyright holders want Google to remove pirate websites from its search results but Google’s Eric Schmidt says this is not going to happen. Schmidt stresses that his company is making changes to reduce piracy, but that policing the web and deleting websites goes against Google’s philosophy.

In the last days, the rough draft of the new Spanish Criminal Code -prepared by the right-wing People's Party, which currently has an absolute majority in the Congress- has been leaked. It contains many disturbing aspects, such as the criminalization of several forms of peaceful protesting – however, one of the most debated topics has been its treatment of internet piracy.

La Cámara de Comercio de los Estados Unidos en México (AMCHAM, por sus siglas en inglés) informó que en el último año ocho de cada diez consumidores compraron (o descargaron de internet) productos piratas en México, lo cual representa una tendencia al alza en comparación con el último estudio que efectúo el organismo en 2009.

In a bid to limit movie piracy in Asia, Disney and Sony have quietly begun testing a bold new on-demand service in South Korea which offers movies to rent while they are still playing in theaters. As noted by the Wall Street Journal, the two companies are the first US studios to provide consumers anywhere with the option to buy a ticket to see a movie or watch it in their own home using their cable, internet, or satellite-TV subscription.

La Audiencia Provincial de Vizcaya, en un juicio penal, ha condenado a un año de prisión y multa a los responsables de los sitios fenixp2p.com y mp3-es.com por vulnerar la propiedad intelectual al ofrecer enlaces a descargas en sitios de intercambio P2P. Se trata de la primera sentencia penal que condena a los acusados.
