The short answer is yes. The considered answer is that SEO and Content Marketing are very different. The guide should be what Google recognises as 'adding value to the user experience of the Internet'.

 

My advice to clients - listen to what Matt Cutts from Google has to say about content and don't be fooled into believing that SEO is a magic bullet.

 

From Mr Cutts' blog:

 

"Here’s my rule of thumb: if someone sends you an email with an SEO offer out of the blue, be skeptical."

 

SEO has its place, and that place is about 3% of the copy that is associated with really engaging content, or in the structure of a website, the days of copy jam packed with SEO terms (even the long tail type) are coming to an end.

 

That said, if you can find a really good SEO writer who can develop clever, engaging copy, then have a chat with them.

While working with kids who have trouble speaking, Ajit Narayanan sketched out a way to think about language in pictures, to relate words and concepts in "maps." The idea now powers an app that helps nonverbal people communicate, and the big idea behind it, a language concept called FreeSpeech, has exciting potential.

An insightful talk about ways to improve language acquisition, not just for those with cognitive or learning differences, but for all individuals.  Symbolic imagery used to construct language instead of just words to create symbolic sounds to create language.  It reminds me of Mandarin and other ideographic languages.  More can be done here, but Narayanan's work is a great starting point.

recentlyrue recently I had to get students to use Powerpoint as the Internet connection was too slow to have them all work at once on other online presentation tools. After laying down some ground rules about effective use they amazed us with their creative responses. It is not the tool. It is how you use it. And how teachers plan for it!
