Allison Anderson's insight:

Really different take on Curation. Curation as a way to manage information around a crisis. A way to get to the signal through a highly-charged field of noise. Even more critical than most of the content curation that we discuss in the learning world.

LEARNING THROUGH DIALOGUE, EXPERIENCE AND COOPERATION

LEARNING THROUGH DIALOGUE, EXPERIENCE AND COOPERATION | Allison's Ecclectic Collection | Scoop.it
A culture of learning versus a culture of teaching At the end of the nineteenth century, a movement for a “new school” appeared in Europe and in the USA. It started in England with the school of Ab...
Allison Anderson's insight:

So much richness in this post. One line that struck me is this: "To establish a dialogue with young people you need to believe that they are not empty containers to be filled up, nor blank sheets of paper

to be written on. They have expectations, interests and desires that count." - I would say this applies not just to dialogue with young people, but with anyone we want to help learn. Too often in the past we've spewed out a bunch of information on the "blank slate" of our employees, just assuming they are empty vessels waiting just waiting for us to come along and save them. Too often we ignore THEIR needs, wants, desires and the rich context they can add to the conversation.

Allison Anderson's insight:

Students often give up on Shakespeare. It's difficult to learn. Once you do, you've unlocked a whole new world. The use of technology to create a more engaging experience - the immediacy with which you can decipher the Shakespeare Code.... it's a fantastic example of technology-enabled learning.

Top 9 Competencies of an Informal-Social Learning Designer

Top 9 Competencies of an Informal-Social Learning Designer | Allison's Ecclectic Collection | Scoop.it
Informal/Social learning is one of the major revolutions happening around us that demands a shift in the mere thinking of ‘learning’. It requires us to unlearn and relearn some of the traditional notions related to the learning style/preference, and the dimensions and the elements of learning design. In this article, we’ll take a quick look at the top 9 essential competencies that a learning designer is required to possess for designing effective informal/social learning interventions for today’s workplaces.
Allison Anderson's insight:

Love that we are now starting to put thought into how we get from old models of learning to new models. A lot of times we assume our designers will be able to make a transition from designing traditional forms of learning to a broader approach that includes social/collaborative learning.
