Officers assigned to the Bagaces cantonal precinct of the Guanacaste province rescued four baby parrots, which were in danger of suffocation. According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Public Security (Spanish initials: MSP) the baby birds were being peddled by a suspect who has a history of trafficking in exotic species. The rescue took place in the community of San Antonio. The man was going door-to-door selling parrots, which some families in Costa Rica enjoy keeping as pets. Neig

Some small good news on the wildlife poaching front. Officers in Costa Rica rescued four baby parrots, which were in danger of suffocation. According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Public Security the baby birds were being peddled by a suspect who has a history of trafficking in exotic species. The rescue took place in the community of San Antonio. The man was going door-to-door selling parrots, which some families in Costa Rica enjoy keeping as pets. Neighbors were concerned that the man showed no regard in keeping the baby parrots safe and comfortable; witnesses noticed that the young birds were stuffed inside a duffel bag during one of the hottest days of the year:

The Forest Department and Animal Rescuers, a voluntary animal welfare organisation, have rescued 28 parakeets and a Black Headed Munia from Coimbatore and Erode in the past few days. The birds that were saved are protected under Schedule IV of Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. According to a press release that was issued here, the birds were rescued from as many as 19 different locations where they were in illegal captivity. They were being kept either as pets, or to be sold to customers in various places. The feathered creatures rescued included four (three female and one male) Alexandrine Parakeets, and 24 (nine male and 15 female) Rose Ringed Parakeets:
