Photographer Leila Jeffreys' family album is a collection of portraits of parrots, owls and budgerigars.
The Zen Parrot's insight:

Photographer Leila Jeffreys has had a fascination with animals and birds since she was a young girl. "My dad loved the outdoors so my brother and I, by default, had a pretty outdoorsy upbringing," she said.

Her recently published photography book Birdland is a collection of detailed portraits of birds, set against clean backdrops.

The minimalist compositions guide the eye to the details of the birds – the layering of plumage, the complex and varied textures of feathers and the tonal variation in their often-bold markings.

The Zen Parrot's insight:

The return of the Spix’s Macaw (Cyanopsitta spixii) to its wild habitat may happen earlier than in 2021. Because of the artificial insemination and good breeding results the captive population grows faster than it was expected. That’s why the total number of 150 individuals will be probably reached within the next two years.

Having 150 Spix’s Macaws in captive population is the basic condition to reintroduce this species back into the wild. Twenty youngers have been bred in this year – 16 birds in Al Wabra breeding center and 4 birds in ACTP, Berlin. In five cases, reproduction was realized through the artificial insemination.
