What Should a Digital Writing Tool Be? ~ The Atlantic

What Should a Digital Writing Tool Be? ~ The Atlantic | All Things Writing | Scoop.it

by Robinson Meyer

"Editorially, a new piece of writing software which opened to the public last week, proposes its own set of answers to those questions. It was clearly built with a thesis: Designed by veterans of digital publishing, it aims to “make collaborative writing easy.”

"To find out more, I interviewed Editorially’s CEO and co-founder, Mandy Brown. I interviewed her by writing in Editorially itself (meta!) and, during the course of our interview, she asked Editorially’s CTO, David Yee, and another editor who frequently uses the service, Nicole Fenton, to pitch in. All three of them, using Editorially, contributed paragraphs of their own and edited them together — a kind of further statement about how writing should work. The product of that process is below; the bolded words are mine."

Writing frenzy! Inspiring writing through NaNoWriMo ~ Fractus Learning

Writing frenzy! Inspiring writing through NaNoWriMo ~ Fractus Learning | All Things Writing | Scoop.it

by Rebecca Davies

"It is September once again, and soon November will be upon us. For millions of people around the world that can only mean one thing - National Novel Writing Month! Known as NaNoWriMo, it is a month long challenge to write 50 000 words of that novel you have always dreamed about. What is not as well known, however, is its partnership program, theYoung Writer’s Program (YWP).

"The YWP also runs during November, and is a challenge for people under 18 to write as many words as possible. They choose their own word count goal depending on how fast they can write and what a reasonable challenge would be. You ‘win’ NaNoWriMo and the YWP by achieving your goal. It doesn’t matter if it is the world’s most brilliant novel, or if you got stuck half way through and needed to add purple ninjas and pet zombies to get it going again, you win simply by writing."
