There Goes Everybody | The People Behind the Paper.lis

There Goes Everybody | The People Behind the Paper.lis | All Things Paper.li | Scoop.it

A nice, thought provoking post by Frank Paynter.

"The web is a workshop and a recreation space, a study hall, a studio, or a conference room, a classroom and a library and a whole lot more. Whatever use you want to make of the media it moves, whatever your interest in the information it contains, however you want to communicate with the others who use it, there are tool sets evolving that will truly separate the people of the 21st century from their neolithic stone adze using forebears. An age of networked knowledge is upon us, bringing with it the tools to conquer the mountain."

Ileane Smith: Blogging and Building Virtual Communities | The People Behind the Paper.lis

Ileane Smith: Blogging and Building Virtual Communities | The People Behind the Paper.lis | All Things Paper.li | Scoop.it

An interview with Publisher Ileane Smith from BasicBlogTips talking about community building and increasing your following via Paper.li.

***Ileane initially created her Paper.lis to give bloggers the recognition she felt they were missing out on. Now she is finding that her papers not only promote and connect people, but also act as the heart of virtual communities.

***

-Paper.li brings people

- it recognizes those that we all seem to think are influential, but weren’t getting the recognition they deserved.

-It’s a great model for how a community can begin, although, of course, it might not work in every case. -To build a community there needs to be a shared passion, and people. BSMH has both, and Paper.li has been at the heart of bringing us together.

Ileane also share her top 10 blogging tips:

1. Read and comment on other blogs.
2. Learn as much as you can about your topic.
3. Start establishing relationships with other bloggers.
4. Join forums and social networks to help you establish those relationships.
5. Use Google Analytics to track and analyse your blog traffic.
6. Ask your readers what type of content they like getting from you best.
7. Always bring your unique point of view to a given topic.
8. Promote your content via a Paper.li and on other social media.
9. Don’t stress yourself out over page rank or keywords — remember you just started blogging.
10. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.

And tip n° 11: never use profanities!

Luci Westphal: Boldly Going Where no Paper.li Has Gone Before | The People Behind the Paper.lis

Luci Westphal: Boldly Going Where no Paper.li Has Gone Before | The People Behind the Paper.lis | All Things Paper.li | Scoop.it

Staff writer Liz Wilson caught up film maker and Social Media Manager for TrekNation, Luci Westphal.  (For those of you not familiar with Trek Nation, it is a documentary on the real world community of Star Trek fans)

Luci uses Paper.li as a part of the TrekNation communication and community building strategy. Luci says:

"Paper.li is a unique and perfect tool to really get engaged with your subject of interest and a community of like-minded people.

By setting up a paper with my parameters (certain Twitter users and keywords), it fulfills many of my goals in one place:

-I’ve created a paper that I find enjoyable to read myself

-a tool to find articles, photos and videos that I want to share with the Star Trek community on social networks

-a means to display our own “Trek Nation Director’s Log” videos

-an opportunity to promote other tweeters and creators, which is important for social networking and community building.

-Last but not least, I hope to have created a digital paper that others simply enjoy"

"As a filmmaker and web series producer I cannot emphasize enough how much I enjoy that Paper.li includes other media besides just articles. I’m not aware of any other service that provides all that Paper.li offers."

"The response to the Trek Nation Tribune is definitely positive. It is being read and re-posted and featured tweeters have thanked us for including them. I believe it engages the community by connecting readers with information and media for themselves to enjoy and to share with others and by introducing different readers, creators and tweeters to each other."

Paperli Can Help You Increase Your Social Influence | FDC Studio

Paperli Can Help You Increase Your Social Influence | FDC Studio | All Things Paper.li | Scoop.it

This is a great reference for publishers ( or not yet publishers) who are skeptical if services such as Paper.li can increase social influence, and if so, how.

Adam, Initially, sceptical, discovers the power of Paper.li as a blogger and site owner. Adam doesn't publish himself, however after seeing the distribution of his content and the direct correlation to new followers on Twitter and his own blog, he takes more time to think about:

-the messaging around his own content in order to be featured in a Paper.li

-the #tags and keywords used to help ensure that his content makes it to the right audience.

Adam's example:

“Social media can help you avoid Walmart’s dead fish http://t.co/G1PmauPD #marketing”

I agree with Adam. That’s a fairly original and interesting message and with the #marketing Adam is ensuring that he will be curated into other marketing oriented Papers so that others interested in marketing will be introduced to him and his blog.

The benefits of Paper.li according to Adam:

Distribution:

Paper.li helps organizations and individuals establish themselves as a trusted source. If your content is on the proper Paper.li, you are reaching a new a new, and targeted, distribution channel

Community:

Paper.li is an effective way of introducing like minded individuals ( news spotters, content sources and readers) who share specific interests

Klout:

Paper.li can help to increase your Twitter following, Klout scores and/or other indicators and tools important to you.

Usefulness: very
