“ Alexis Allen posted a must read article on the use of colors in FileMaker, and covers in quite some detail: The fourth in a series on the basics of visual design for FileMaker. Colour is one of the most important elements of a design.”

“ No, parsing is not a spelling mistake; it’s a term used to describe separating data into different elements. In this short video, we’re going to separate out a single address field, into separate address, city, state and zip fields, using FileMaker’s enormously powerful replace function. ”
I’ve broken the steps down into very easy to follow ones and this technique can be used in a lot of different situations so you should find it useful; that is, if you aren’t already doing this type of stuff on a daily basis.

“ Thanks for your interest in the FileMaker 14 Platform, which brings new speed and flexibility to your solutions, whether they are used on the desktop, iOS, or the web.”
We've (FileMaker Inc) selected some of the top features to share with you in the lessons below, most of which include step-by-step exercises that take place in an example solution. You can work through them sequentially using the navigation links at the top and bottom of the screen, or skip around using this page.
I’ve been working on accessing the Google Calendar API 3 thru Filemaker and put together this quick summary of what I’ve learned. It is all Filemaker programming, no other language skills required. This file contains scripts to invoke four Google Calendar functions: create calendar, create event, edit event and delete event. The scripts are not dependent on layouts, fields or custom functions and can be copied and pasted into your fm file. All parameters are entered in the script parameter when calling the API scripts. A parameter template is at the beginning of each API script. There are many more calendar functions that can easily be implemented using the same technique used here.

FileMaker Pro is turning out to be a great document and image management system with some of the new features to do with Container Fields.
However there is one little annoying ‘feature’ holdover from previous versions —when using Drag and Drop of images from a Web Browser or Web Viewer (Sarari or Firefox) into container fields on a Macintosh, instead of an image showing up in the field, a text URL will be displayed.
The Solution: Fortunately FileMaker Pro also brought the very useful Insert from URL script step.
By employing a script trigger using the Insert from URL script step, the missing drag and drop functionality can be fixed.
FileMaker 14 features new tools to make DIY mobile database apps possible for non-programmers.
In the enterprise software world we spend a lot of time talking about the big guns -- Oracle, IBM DB2, SAP HANA, and the like.
Those are critical as the foundations for large enterprise applications, but there are thousands of applications that organizations need that require a database, but perhaps not quite as much database as the big guns provide.
Let's talk about the database on a slightly smaller scale.
“ A little over four years ago I posted the original version of this article, exploring a technique that worked fine in FM 11, but that broke and required extensive work arounds in FM 12 and 13. What...”

When testing the functionality of a solution, software developers frequently have to create test records, which requires them to enter in test data. If the fields requiring a value include a name field, I'm good to go for about 5-6 records, until I exhaust the 'first name' supply that I seem to keep handy in my brain. If I also need to enter in address data, I'm hopeless. Pretty soon, I'm just typing in "xxx" or "asdf". If there's data validation in place, then I'm in real trouble.
The net effect of this manual entry is it discourages effective testing.
Gotcha's When Assigning and Using Variables by Andy Frazier "Learn from the master, you must!" If you do any development outside of FileMaker Pro (and trust me, if only to learn different ways of approaching problems, you really should), you know that there's a…
