Why are most curators doing it wrong? | All Library Stuff All The Time | Scoop.it
When you are curating content without a story you are not sharing your knowledge. You are sharing content. All curators do make a selection and share that. But what I miss is the story, the context. Why are they sharing this content and what is the context? What is there to learn and why?

Kasper Spiro da en el clavo. Curar contenido no es buscar. Es seleccionar, dar contexto y contar una historia. Es aportar.

Academic Libraries and Open Educational Resources: Developing Partnerships | ALA Annual 2016

Academic Libraries and Open Educational Resources: Developing Partnerships | ALA Annual 2016 | All Library Stuff All The Time | Scoop.it
“ A number of higher education–focused sessions at the American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference touched on issues surrounding student retention and completion—and with the costs of tuition, housing, and materials constantly rising, saving students money is a major consideration. When the conversation includes state and community colleges, and a student body that may have less access to financial resources, finding strategies to cut costs becomes more important than ever.”

Open Knowledge Maps - A visual interface to the world's scientific knowledge

Open Knowledge Maps - A visual interface to the world's scientific knowledge | All Library Stuff All The Time | Scoop.it

VISUAL INTERFACE
We are creating a visual interface to the world's scientific knowledge that can be used by anyone in order to dramatically improve the discoverability of research results.

REVOLUTIONIZE DISCOVERY
We are going to provide a large-scale system of open, interactive and interlinked knowledge maps spanning all fields of research.

SHARE. USE. COLLABORATE.
We will develop a space for collective knowledge organisation and exploration, connecting researchers, students, librarians, journalists, practitioners and citizens.

HOW IT WORKS
An Open Knowledge Maps visualization presents you with a topical overview for your search term.

We use text similarity to create the knowledge maps. The algorithm groups those papers together that have many words in common.

The visualization is intended to give you a head start on your literature search. You can also use Open Knowledge Maps to stay up-to-date - just limit your search to the most recent papers in the options.

Valuing Library Services as a Predictor of Student Retention #libraries #highered #acrl

Valuing Library Services as a Predictor of Student Retention #libraries #highered #acrl | All Library Stuff All The Time | Scoop.it

"This study examined the predictive relationship between library use by individual students and their retention status in university settings. The methodology builds on a small number of previous studies to examine library use at the individual level in order to determine if use of specific library services is predictive of retention for freshmen and sophomores. Binary logistic regression yielded results which indicate a strong positive predictive relationship between library use of any kind with both freshmen and sophomore retention. These results suggest that academic libraries add value to institutional retention efforts."
