Colorado Presses for Uninsured to Enroll

Colorado Presses for Uninsured to Enroll | All healthcare is local | Scoop.it
Colorado is embracing the health care overhaul, with a vast marketing push to educate residents about it.
Annette Simmons's insight:

Getting people to participate in the system has a double benefit.  We have created a dialogue in America re-examining our relationship to health and disease. As well as implemening a more just system for re-distributing the cost of disease.

Tackle vague requirements in health IT with storytelling | Healthcare IT News

Tackle vague requirements in health IT with storytelling | Healthcare IT News | All healthcare is local | Scoop.it
Storytelling is an engaging process that is rewarding for both the teller and the listener. Having mentioned that, a requirements engineer may ask, why couldn't we bring storytelling to our domain?
Annette Simmons's insight:

This is the first of what should be a very interesting series of articles.  I've found user experience designers who use "design thinking" have been forced into storytelling the more they turn to human-centered or user-focused design process.  It is fascinating to watch how they integrate the ambiguity of stories and subjective process into strong preferences for objective thinking and pre-deterimined process steps.

Jeremy Pollard's curator insight, October 9, 12:31 PM

Here's another great example of the power of telling stories to break down a process or steps into a narrative to make more sense of it.

The sequential, time-based story is perfect for answering that classic question as a story unfolds 'and then what happened...'?

Even the least verbally expressive scientist or engineer can find a story in their research, or theory, or design approach.

Employer Health Coverage Costs Show Modest Growth, But Worker Out-Of-Pocket Expenses Jump

The findings, based on a poll of employers conducted by the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Health Research & Educational Trust, also note that the availability of employer-sponsored health coverage was holding steady.
Annette Simmons's insight:

Nothing is more local than your wallet. I unwillingly endured a high deductible but I have to admit, it heightened my awareness and sensitivity to healthcare costs.  It is a powerful reminder - paying out of pocket.  My parents with their generous pensions don't notice.

FDA: health IT products should be classified by patient safety risk level |

FDA: health IT products should be classified by patient safety risk level | <br/>Modern Healthcare | All healthcare is local | Scoop.it
The Food and Drug Administration proposed regulating health information technologies based on their potential risks to patient safety, rather than by the technology platform they utilize.
Annette Simmons's insight:

I'm not a fan of regulations. I never met a rule I didn't want to break.  However, some advances in healthcare IT DO produce side effects that impair patient safety.  Worse, IT applications routinely steal time and attention away from the diagnostic advantage of patient stories and healing benefitis of personal connections. Data gathering replaces real communication in the healthcare environment starting with admission interrogations conducted from behind a computer screen and continuing with schedules and routines that fry the circuits of nurses, doctors and patients.

Then again, more regulations could always  make things worse.  Time will tell.
