Google wants to change your reality with Ingress, a mobile game played out in real life

Google wants to change your reality with Ingress, a mobile game played out in real life | All Around Technology | Scoop.it
All the viral ads courtesy of Niantic Labs told us something was coming, and now its here -- an alternate reality game from Google called Ingress. The theme is one of worldwide mind control, and it'll be played out in real life, where you'll be a part of one of two teams which either embrace or fight "the power" -- The Enlightened or The Resistance, respectively. With a companion mobile app installed, you'll venture out into the world collecting energy known as "Exotic Matter" (XM), found at real locations. This can then be spent claiming, stealing or reinforcing "portals," which are positioned at key public places. Teamwork will be essential, as the goal is to create zones controlled by your faction, and attacking those occupied by the enemy. One team will eventually win, although this end point is expected to be a year to 18 months down the line.

Sony's PlayStation Mobile Developer Program officially kicks off, SDK ready for prime time

Sony's PlayStation Mobile Developer Program officially kicks off, SDK ready for prime time | All Around Technology | Scoop.it

After unveiling plans for PlayStation Mobile last summer, opening the storefront and letting its software development kit marinate in beta for roughly a year, Sony has finally given the dev platform the "go" (no, not that one) for launch. Developers eager to create games and apps for PlayStation-certified Android tablets and smartphones -- and even the PS Vita -- can download the SDK so long as they're willing to shell out $99 a year for the chance to publish as many titles as they wish. If you're ready to start slinging code, see the source links below to enroll in the program and download the SDK.

Ken Morrison's comment, February 29, 2012 8:12 PM
Thank you for this great article.

It is very hard for me to grasp that 1 out every 4 searches in 2012 will be done on a mobile device. I know that Asia and developing countries are booming in mobile without a desktop option at home. But 1 in 4 is still mind-boggling to me. I am curious if corporate firewalls keep from accurate measuring of the billions of searches done at the workplace? I'm not expecting an answer from you, I am just very curious if anyone has insight that I am missing.

BTW: I loved this link that was inside of your scooped article:

Miguel Rodriguez's comment, March 1, 2012 6:23 PM
I understand you vety well, Ken Morrison. The world is going mobile, snd it is impressive the way this trend is moving. Mobiles are making their apparitione in impossible places. One of the major concerns in the workplace is the use and abuse of ths technology during work hours. In schools this tendency is even worse.
