Here's what brain research says will make you happy:

 Ask "What am I grateful for?" No answers? Doesn't matter. Just searching helps.

Label those negative emotions. Give it a name and your brain isn't so bothered by it.

Decide. Go for "good enough" instead of 'best decision ever made on Earth."

 Hugs, hugs, hugs. Don't text — touch. 

So what's the simple way to start that upward spiral of happiness? Just send someone a thank-you email. If you feel awkward about it, you can send them this post to tell them why.

I am overwhelmed in waves sometimes. For a brief moment or two, often when I certainly don't expect to be, I'm awash in beauty or sound or thoughts.
Ariana Amorim's insight:

"This new idea, courtesy of Patron of the Arts non-profit in California, is this: On a slip of paper, write things throughout the year for which you might utter a silent (or otherwise) “thank you,” then slip it into a jar. (My added suggestion: Write down the date, too). Do one or more every day, or throughout your days as they enter your life.

At the end of the year (or throughout it when good things seem way out of reach) open the jar and pull out each one. Wow. Blessings abound."
