How do You Improve Workplace Communication? Ask Questions | Box of Crayons

How do You Improve Workplace Communication? Ask Questions | Box of Crayons | All About Coaching | Scoop.it
Sometimes the best way to have a constructive conversation is to give a little less advice and ask a few more questions. When you shift from giving advice and offering solutions to asking questions, you might at first feel a little anxious. You might wonder, "How can I be helping if I'm just pestering with questions?" But if you think about it, asking questions can be a great way to practice mindful communication. To be mindful of communication essentially means to listen and think before speaking, to be mindful of what you say, to communicate with kindness and awareness. You can see how asking questions, in the right way, is a form of mindful communication—you need to stop and listen to the answers rather than jumping in to express your own thoughts. Your asking the right questions enables you and your teammates to come up with a successful game plan in a much more efficient way than if you had merely leapt in with your own solutions. How do Questions Improve Communication at Work?

Nobody’s Better Than You

Nobody’s Better Than You | All About Coaching | Scoop.it
Don’t worry about the competition. Be number one in a class of one.
Ariana Amorim's insight:
"Along the way I have learned that comparison and competition are enemies of the artist. How did he get that assignment? How could she win that award? How many books did she sell? What’s his hourly rate? All that should matter is the piece of work that sits before you. There is you. There is your art. At the elemental level, nothing else matters. Call it my Theory of Originals. Don’t worry about the competition. Find what you do best. When the room is full or when the lines are long, form a line of your own. Be number one in a class of one. Once you’re there, nobody will be better than you, either."

5 Myths About Coaching - and What's More True! | By David Frank Gomes | All About Coaching | Scoop.it
One of the ways I think coaches can help themselves become more empowered is being familiar with some of the central myths around coaching. The truth is, although business and executive coaching is fairly ubiquitous, personal coaching is still in its infancy. And there are a tremendous amount of sticky sweet self help slogans out there that I believe do more harm than good.

My Three Best Secrets on Effective Coaching | Box of Crayons

My Three Best Secrets on Effective Coaching | Box of Crayons | All About Coaching | Scoop.it
“Coaching” isn’t a new leadership term. Chances are you’ve already come across it in some form or another. In fact, research done in 2006 by leadership development firm BlessingWhite found that 73 percent of managers had some form of coaching training, but only 23 percent of people being coached (fewer than one in four!) thought that the coaching had a positive effect on their job.

It doesn’t always have to be a struggle — there are easy ways for managers to become more coach-like. The essence of coaching lies in helping others, and in unlocking their potential. So if you’re already committed to being helpful and it hasn’t yet led you to coaching more often, read on to learn my best tips for getting there.

Why Creativity is Too Important to Be Left to Artists

Why Creativity is Too Important to Be Left to Artists | All About Coaching | Scoop.it
Why Creativity is Too Important to Be Left to Artists - The Book of Life is the 'brain' of The School of Life, a gathering of the best ideas around wisdom and emotional intelligence.
Ariana Amorim's insight:
"Creativity isn’t a rare and highly dramatic activity; it’s not a side-show incidental to the core concerns of our lives. It’s something that – ideally – we’re always involved in. It’s a refusal to accept the world as it is in all its facets, it’s a commitment to doing better with what we have".

"Usually, we just put up with matters that are frustrating or disappointing. But when we get creative, we adapt what is to hand – combining, reorganising, starting afresh – so that it better matches our interests and ideals. It is the opposite of feeling stuck and resigned, it is a refusal to accept the status quo. The creative person is someone particularly committed to the idea that there must be a better way of going about things".

How would you live every day as if it were your last? Go skydiving? Attempt to ride a bull for 2.7 seconds? Kathleen Taylor has spent over 20 years as a counselor and community engagement facilitator for the dying and has found that in the last chapter of their lives, most people become their authentic selves. They become courageous - they change their minds, apologize, forgive... they find joy in the smallest moments.
