Are Your Beliefs Empowering You to Think Big? | Shake Off the Grind

Are Your Beliefs Empowering You to Think Big? | Shake Off the Grind | All About Coaching | Scoop.it
Sometimes I wake up feeling great, like I can do anything. I feel successful; I'm positive, optimistic, thinking big! But, other times I relapse into small, insecure thinking. I feel defeated and lose control of my thought factories production.
Ariana Amorim's insight:

"Beliefs are wide-ranging, and learning where they come from and how they play a role in our life is crucial to begin changing them. They become such a part of who we are as a person. It’s tough to alter what we have been attached to most of our life, but we must start to produce more empowering beliefs and stop defending the half-truths that hold us back."

Where do beliefs come from – are they really yours? How are beliefs playing a role in your life? Beliefs equal effectiveness: How effective are you being?

How to Create Your Annual 2015 Plan | Ishita Gupta

How to Create Your Annual 2015 Plan | Ishita Gupta | All About Coaching | Scoop.it

It’s that time of year where we look to the year ahead and make big plans. If you’re taking a break over the holidays, you’ll likely get moreenergy and ideas for what you want to do in 2015. True downtime is good for that. You recharge, listen to yourself, clean up the what’s getting in the way of your real desires. But big vision thinking can’t happen alone. Lots of creative ideas without a plan for how to make the most important ones happen is dangerous. You end up focusing on NOTHING because you focus on EVERYTHING.

Procrastinate Successfully in 5 Easy Steps... - The Launchpad - The Coaching Tools Company Blog | All About Coaching | Scoop.it

Procrastination is not the “black or white” issue I had previously thought; it’s not that we are either a “procrastinator” or a “doer” – we can be both. You see, I recently discovered (after 10 years of personal development and coaching) that I was a secret procrastinator. I say secret because I HAD NO IDEA I regularly procrastinated.

An Exercise to Become a More Powerful Listener

An Exercise to Become a More Powerful Listener | All About Coaching | Scoop.it
Inspired by a Quaker practice

Listening is often considered the softest of the soft skills. So the idea of being apowerful listener can seem like an oxymoron. And yet, my work with executives has taught me that when they really listen to discover what is essential, the impact can be astonishing. It’s one of the most important ways to engage employees.

What Maslow’s Hierarchy Won’t Tell You About Motivation

What Maslow’s Hierarchy Won’t Tell You About Motivation | All About Coaching | Scoop.it

Despite the popularity of Maslow’s Hierarchy, there is not much recent data to support it. Contemporary science — specifically Dr. Edward Deci, hundreds of Self-Determination Theory researchers, and thousands of studies — instead points to three universal psychological needs. If you really want to advantage of this new science – rather than focusing on a pyramid of needs – you should focus on: autonomy, relatedness, and competence.

An interesting viewpoint on Maslow scooped by Kenneth Mikkelsen. The core principles of Maslow's Hierarchy remain both valid and important for leaders to understand in addition to this, in my view. .

Sue Gaardboe's curator insight, November 28, 4:55 PM

This struck such a cord with me.  I can pin point the moment when I recognised that my life was my responsibility, and can see the energy that flowed from that realisation and how it's influenced every decision and action in my life. We introduce the idea to our students in a general way, (Why is it your Mum's fault that you left your homework at home?Isn't it your responsibility?) but certainly don't help them to appreciate it deeply in their lives.

The greatest email you’ll ever send.

The greatest email you’ll ever send. | All About Coaching | Scoop.it
Like most road warriors, I’m always surrounded by people, though amazingly, it’s still very easy to be lonely while traveling. Days, weeks and months pass (airline miles and hotel points rack up) and time seems to disappear before your eyes. While I consider myself pretty good about keeping in touch with people (via phone, social media, etc.) I started to think about all the things I’d want people to know in the event, well, that I wasn’t around anymore. I know, it’s a bit morbid so hear me out. In the event you weren’t here on this earth tomorrow, what would you want the important people in your life to know?

How to Look at New Years Resolutions Through a Different Lens - The Coaching Tools Company Blog

How to Look at New Years Resolutions Through a Different Lens - The Coaching Tools Company Blog | All About Coaching | Scoop.it

The tradition of New Years resolutions goes back over 4000 years. Babylonians made promises & offerings to their gods at the beginning of the New Year, so the gods might bestow their grace upon them. During Caesar’s time in ancient Rome, the first month of the year was named after the god Janus, a two faced god who looked backward into the old year and forward into the New Year. Resolutions were usually of a moral flavor – to be good to each other, to think of others etc. – and in one form or another, the tradition of making New Year’s Resolutions continues.

life coaching and personal coaching guide, tips - coaching success, performance, sales, career development; and coaching life-change, leadership, and management. | All About Coaching | Scoop.it

In recent years a big industry has grown under the heading of 'life coaching'. For this reason the term 'life coaching' appears widely in related marketing and publicity, which can create a perception that 'life coaching' is in some way quite different from other forms of personal coaching. In fact the term 'personal coaching' can be equally descriptive of what 'life coaching' entails: many personal coaches have capabilities which match those of 'life coaches', and many clients of personal coaches experience exactly the same coaching effects as in the 'life coaching' industry.

Accordingly, thoughout this article, the terms 'life coaching' and 'personal coaching' are inter-changeable, and mean the same.

Life coaching/personal coaching is interesting from the standpoint of being coached, and also becoming a coach. This article aims to cover both angles.

3 Great Metaphors for Work and Life : Sources of Insight | All About Coaching | Scoop.it

“Metaphors have a way of holding the most truth in the least space.” — Orson Scott Card

I asked some friends what would they like me to write about for them (a personal blog post that speaks to them in some way and helps them solve a challenge they have.)

One of my friends asked if I could share three great short and memorable metaphors for work, emotional, physical, intellectual, and parental situations.

He wanted the metaphors to help make it easier to get back on track when he gets distracted.

So here they are …
