The Positive Emotion Diet: What Shape Are You In? | All About Coaching | Scoop.it

"What’s your “emotional diet” like?
Does it leave you feeling energized and able to get through the events of each day (both the enjoyable and challenging), or does it leave you feeling depleted and at the mercy of even the most minor of setbacks?

In this 7-minute video, psychologist Barbara Fredrickson explains that while it’s not always easy, by adopting a routine to generate positive emotions, you not only increase your happiness levels, but can alter your biological makeup for the better too."

Robbie, also known as Kid President, was born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta ("Brittle Bone syndrome"), but he's obviously not going to let it get in the way of his dreams. "This is life people! The Power of Belief - Mindset and Success: Eduardo Briceno at TEDxManhattanBeach

The way we understand our intelligence and abilities deeply impacts our success. Based on social science research and real life examples, Eduardo Briceño  articulates how mindset, or the understanding of intelligence and abilities, is key. When students or adults see their abilities as fixed, whether they think they're naturals or just not built for a certain domain, they avoid challenge and lose interest when things get hard. Conversely, when they understand that abilities are developed, they more readily adopt learning-oriented behaviors such as deliberate practice and grit that enable them to achieve their goals. But this belief is itself malleable, and there are clear actions we can all take to establish a growth mindset and enable success for our children, our peers and ourselves.

Ernesto Sirolli: Want to help someone? Shut up and listen! | Video on TED.com

When most well-intentioned aid workers hear of a problem they think they can fix, they go to work. This, Ernesto Sirolli suggests, is naïve. In this funny and impassioned talk, he proposes that the first step is to listen to the people you're trying to help, and tap into their own entrepreneurial spirit. His advice on what works will help any entrepreneur.

Ernesto Sirolli got his start doing aid work in Africa in the 70's -- and quickly realised how ineffective it was.

How would you live every day as if it were your last?  Go skydiving? Attempt to ride a bull for 2.7 seconds? Kathleen Taylor has spent over 20 years as a counselor and community engagement facilitator for the dying and has found that in the last chapter of their lives, most people become their authentic selves. They become courageous - they change their minds, apologize, forgive... they find joy in the smallest moments. In this TEDx talk, Taylor urges us not to wait until we are at the end of our lives to find our true selves.

Tan Teck Ling's curator insight, June 30, 2013 6:42 AM

This is my Insight using Step Inside thinking routine,

I felt that the speaker has stated very important aspects that individuals should have in order to be successful and it also encourages me to persevere on and not give up on just one failure and cower in fear for another failure in an aspect of life.
The speaker is trying to tell listeners that it is not the standard IQ that determines the success of an individual, but their ability to persevere once again for a better change in life.
The speakers used results from her research on successful people to prove the importance of a factor that affects success and it would allow others to be enlightened by this and strive again for the better.

How Happiness Directly Impacts Your Success

How Happiness Directly Impacts Your Success | All About Coaching | Scoop.it
Feeling unhappy? Learn how increasing your happiness is within your power, and how doing so directly influences your success.

Recently a client shared with me the riveting TED Talk by the world’s leading positive psychology expert and bestselling author Shawn Achor on The Happy Secret to Better Work.

His TED talk is one of the most popular of all time with over 4 million views, and he has a new lecture airing on PBS called “The Happiness Advantage.”

When my client told me about the talk, I questioned whether there would be anything new that I hadn’t already heard about happiness in my training as a therapist, but wow, was I wrong.

I asked Shawn what I wanted to know about happiness and success. Here are his answers...

Ariana Amorim's insight:

From this article:

"Happiness fuels success, not the other way around. When we are positive, our brains become more engaged, creative, motivated, energetic, resilient, and productive at work."

"In the end, happiness is not the belief that we don’t need to change.  It is the belief that we can."

There are five key steps that we can take each day to increase our experience of happiness:

1)      Bring gratitude to mind – Write down three NEW things that you are grateful for each day

2)      Journal – About a positive experience you’ve had recently for 2 minutes once a day

3)      Exercise –  Engage in 15 minutes of mindful cardio activity

4)      Meditate – Watch your breath go in and out for 2 minutes a day and

5)      Engage in a random, conscious act of kindness –  Write a 2-minute positive email thanking a friend or colleague, or compliment someone you admire on social media.

Do these steps for 21 days, and you will begin to see a lasting shift in your mindset towards more positivity.

There are two kinds of secrets, the ones we hide from others, and those we keep from ourselves.

How do great leaders inspire action?

How do great leaders inspire action? | All About Coaching | Scoop.it

Why are most messages so uninspiring, so unconvincing?

By the same token, what magic do both the speeches of Martin Luther King and the marketing of Apple have that move us to believe and act?

Simon Sinek, author of Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action, has an interesting theory:

People don’t buy what you do. They buy why you do it… Start with “Why.”
