Turning Your Dream Into A Strategic Plan

Turning Your Dream Into A Strategic Plan | All About Coaching | Scoop.it

Strategic planning has gotten a bad rap with some business owners. You value flexibility and freedom so much you are concerned that a strategic plan will constrain you, clip your wings, strip away your entrepreneurial spirit, and ability to act. The notion of committing to a plan smacks of a bureaucracy you want to avoid.

But, the truth is strategic planning sets you free.

How To Use If-Then Planning To Achieve Any Goal

How To Use If-Then Planning To Achieve Any Goal | All About Coaching | Scoop.it
Vague plans don’t get done. Capitalize on the natural language of your brain and be specific when setting goals.

There’s a big gap between knowing what you want to do and actually getting it done. We want to be focused with laser-like precision on critical tasks and make the best, most efficient use of our time. Instead, we get distracted, we procrastinate, and we wind up getting too absorbed by unimportant aspects of a single project when we’d be better off turning our attention to other things.

Fortunately, there is a very simple strategy that has been proven to help us deal effectively with the distractions.

It’s called if-then planning.

The Power of Planning ‹ http://coachfederation.org/blog

Before we get into how to plan effectively, I need to level with you: planning requires discipline – it is not always easy!  You have to make it a priority, and you have to take it seriously. If you want it to work for you, you have to schedule time to plan, and not just every now and then – consistently. Make it a habit and learn to live by it. As a coach to business owners, and as an entrepreneur myself, I have learned it is the most supportive habit you could possibly adopt.

Ariana Amorim's insight:

From the article:

Planning always starts with the end in mind – looking at the results (e.g. revenue) you want to create, and figuring out what you need to do to make that happen. It’s a strategic process of starting with the big picture and working your way down to specific, measurable, manageable action steps – one question at a time.

What do I want to achieve? What are the steps it will take to achieve that? What must get done in order to accomplish each step? When will I do each of those things? What resources and support will help me accomplish those steps?

Life Coaching: The Four Gifts of Intention - Erickson College

Life Coaching: The Four Gifts of Intention - Erickson College | All About Coaching | Scoop.it

We all have our own personal big bang. A spark, a moment of truth, and we’re off. We start to follow an intention, an inspired idea, that moves us forward in the direction of a dream, our dream.

As soon as we have a dream, we need a time frame for its realization. The four gifts of intention give meaning to that time frame. We need to develop:

A strong plan. The physical framework (action steps) to realize the plan.Stakeholders who effectively get results from the plan.Meaningfulness; a community of enjoyment based on the successful realization of the plan.
Ariana Amorim's insight:

From the post: "Coaching is all about how we shape our lives through intention and attention. Coaching is also about how we share this attention and intention with each other. A coach pays powerful attention while a coachee focuses on a specific intention. We create a beautiful mind in our conversational dance together. This is the art and science of coaching."

Checklist: What 9 things can help you make better decisions? | All About Coaching | Scoop.it

Francesca Gino is a professor at Harvard Business School and has done a number of fascinating studies in social psychology exploring the sometimes crazy things that influence your behavior and the biases the human mind seems inherently prone to.

Also check out the newest from Dan and Chip Heath, "Decisive" it hits the shelves on March 31st but you can find excerpts on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Decisive-Make-Better-Choices-Life/dp/0307956393. In the book they outline an effective model for decision making: WRAP: Widen your options, Reality check your assumptions, Attain distance, and Prepare to be wrong. As with all their books, the Heath brothers lay out stories to illustrate how to employ their strategies as well as compelling examples from business and evidence from science. Great book.

Motivation Lessons from the Man Who Ran for 5 Days (with No Sleep) | Lateral Action

Motivation Lessons from the Man Who Ran for 5 Days (with No Sleep) | Lateral Action | All About Coaching | Scoop.it

Cliff Young is the most famous runner you have never heard of.
Cliff is a legend among endurance athletes. He made his mark in 1983 when – a sheep farmer by trade – he showed up in overalls and work boots to compete in the Westfield Sydney to Melbourne Ultra Marathon.

The typical technique for this race was to run 17 hours a day and then sleep for 7 hours. Sort of a ‘big leap then rest’ approach. Cliff’s technique was a little different. He just ran straight – with no sleep – all the way to Melbourne.

His technique allowed him to not only win but set a new course record of 5 days, 15 hours, and 4 minutes – smashing the existing record by 2 days.

Now, you may not plan to run 875 km in your work clothes, but when you commit to achieving big things with your life, there will be plenty of times when you need a little extra motivation to keep going – and Cliff is the perfect example to draw on for inspiration.

Here are seven powerful lessons from Cliff’s story, which will keep you going when you need a boost of motivation.
