week 8: sustainablity

"Goals are often temporary, but systems are long-term. If you want to make a sustainable change in your life, you need to approach it as a systematic change" (Handel, 2016). goal is a target to reach but  the high of “success” of goal is temporary and eventually wears off. in order word when you achieved your goal you only go half way to "real" success.

for example in hospitality, you set your goal to be a manager. in order to be a manager you must have some required skills. when you achieved your manager goal, you have to mantain those skills you have in order to move further. if you dont mantain those skills you will forget and you might lose the manager position and you have to start from the start again.

therefore, sustainability is more important than temporary sucess. the example above shows that if you dont have sustaunability you will go backward and waste more time to start over again.

Trang Thi Truc Dao's curator insight, May 11, 2016 4:23 AM
 week 8: sustainable
Any goals set out what plans are only temporarily. In order to achieve success, they must undergo a process of testing, practice and the results obtained, but the success of the objectives also only temporary if they are not a sustainable system. Whether there are any changes, the system impact will certainly always more sustainable goals.

In the hotel industry too, aiming to increase hotel room capacity is in place and there is always much impact changes but the system is based on the best jobs and important in the long run. Therefore, sustainability is the most essential factor in determining the success of failure of a business hotel as well as the energy level of an individual in the system.

Should You Pursue Your Dream, Even if You’ll Probably Fail?

Should You Pursue Your Dream, Even if You’ll Probably Fail? | All About Coaching | Scoop.it

"I like to think of myself as a rational person. Yes, I have emotions that muddle my choices, and I make mistakes on logic problems just like anyone else. But when I have big decisions to make in my life, I’d like to believe that I go with the facts.

Which is why the titular question makes me so uncomfortable.

(...) My dream was a high-variance profession. That means there were a few spectacular winners, a few more mediocre successes and tons of failures. Authors, musicians, actors, athletes and architects are other high-variance professions.
The problem is that pursuing such high-risk professions is often hard to rationally justify. I’ll explain why this is so, but I’ll conclude by sharing why I think you can still have hope even if your dream is hard to achieve, and some high-variance pursuits that are well worth pursuing."

Do You Believe Anyone Can Achieve Any Goal? | Digital Spark Marketing | All About Coaching | Scoop.it

To do something well you have to like it. That idea is not exactly novel. We’ve got it down to four words: “Do what you love.” But it’s not enough just to tell people that. Doing what you love to achieve any goal is very hard work.

Our Takeaway?

Anyone can achieve any goal as long as three conditions exist:

Desire to achieve
Belief in ability to achieve
Enjoy trying to achieve

How Goals and Good Intentions Can Hold Us Back

How Goals and Good Intentions Can Hold Us Back | All About Coaching | Scoop.it
Focusing on goals fires up your intentions to engage in the activities that will help you achieve those goals. But there's a major downside. Stay focused on your goals and you spoil your experience of the activities you'll need to pursue. In turn, that makes it far more likely that you'll drop out early and fail to achieve the very goals that you're so focused on.

New research shows that intrinsic motivation thrives when you focus on your immediate experience rather than the end game.

How Do I Design My “True” Goal?

How Do I Design My “True” Goal? | All About Coaching | Scoop.it

Along my coaching journey, I realized the importance of setting a “true” goal versus the “right” goal at an early stage of a coaching engagement. In my professional coaching assignments, I start with understanding the organization’s (i.e., sponsor’s) overall goal and then move on to the individual’s goal. I insist on co-creating it with the client. It only makes sense since at the end of the day they will be talking, owning, actioning and sometimes “breathing” them (most sessions of mine starts with “breathing” in the client’s values, life purpose, goals) with their coach for the next few months!

The Power of Belief - Mindset and Success: Eduardo Briceno at TEDxManhattanBeach

The way we understand our intelligence and abilities deeply impacts our success. Based on social science research and real life examples, Eduardo Briceño  articulates how mindset, or the understanding of intelligence and abilities, is key. When students or adults see their abilities as fixed, whether they think they're naturals or just not built for a certain domain, they avoid challenge and lose interest when things get hard. Conversely, when they understand that abilities are developed, they more readily adopt learning-oriented behaviors such as deliberate practice and grit that enable them to achieve their goals. But this belief is itself malleable, and there are clear actions we can all take to establish a growth mindset and enable success for our children, our peers and ourselves.

Consider Not Setting Goals in 2013

Consider Not Setting Goals in 2013 | All About Coaching | Scoop.it
Goals have counterproductive side effects. There's a better way to hold yourself accountable.
Ariana Amorim's insight:

"So what can you do in the absence of goals? It's still often necessary to drive toward achievements, especially in business. We need help setting direction and measuring progress. But maybe there's a better way to achieve those things while sidestepping goals' negative side effects.

I want to propose one: Instead of identifying goals, consider identifying areas of focus.

A goal defines an outcome you want to achieve; an area of focus establishes activities you want to spend your time doing. A goal is a result; an area of focus is a path. A goal points to a future you intend to reach; an area of focus settles you into the present."
