Disney Knows Your Brain And Wants Your Emotions

Disney Knows Your Brain And Wants Your Emotions | All About Coaching | Scoop.it
The launch of Pixar’s latest animated film, Inside Out, is imminent. While most will watch the film for its story and animation, there’s an interesting backstory.
Much of the story takes place inside the head of the main character, the 11-year-old Riley. Five emotions interact there, voiced by actors like Amy Poehler and Louis Black.

The emotions are Joy, Anger, Disgust, Fear, and Sadness. These might sound like the fanciful creations of a fiction writer, but in fact they are based on sound science.

Re-invent Yourself

Re-invent Yourself | All About Coaching | Scoop.it

What can you learn from the latest findings of the exciting field of neurosciences in order to grow, to evolve, and to even re-invent yourself? To truly re-invent yourself!

A neurological Roadmap to Personal Change and Growth
Most thoughts are ideas that we make up and then come to believe. Believing merely becomes a habit. Repetitive thoughts might determine – think of computer programs running in the background all day – our lives. The good news: Since you are the one who operates the programs, you could elect to change or even delete them. Curious how to do it?

Ariana Amorim's insight:

A summary of the main ideas:

The more often we focus on something and think of it, the more real it will become. As such we can mold and shape the neurological framework of the self by the repeated attention we give to any one thing.

When the body responds to a thought by having a feeling, this initiates a response in the brain which constantly monitors and evaluates the status of the body. In response to that bodily feeling, the brain generates thoughts that produce corresponding chemical messengers; you begin to think the way you are feeling:

'Thinking creates feeling, and the feeling creates thinking, in a continuous cycle.

We can change (and thus, evolve) ourselves and our brains, so that we no longer fall into those repetitive, habitual, and often unhealthy reactions that are produced as a result of our genetic inheritance and our past experiences. We can achieve it with will and determination. By making a conscious decision in our neocortex. How does it work in reality?

Step 1 – Understand the Notion that “Thoughts are real“

Step 2 - Fight against the notion that your thoughts are uncontrollable

Step 3 – Start questioning old Beliefs

Step 4 – Step out of Routines

Step 5 – Speculate and explore

Step 6 – Gather information

Step 7 – Rehearse every day

Does it leave you feeling energized and able to get through the events of each day (both the enjoyable and challenging), or does it leave you feeling depleted and at the mercy of even the most minor of setbacks?

In this 7-minute video, psychologist Barbara Fredrickson explains that while it’s not always easy, by adopting a routine to generate positive emotions, you not only increase your happiness levels, but can alter your biological makeup for the better too."

At Six Seconds, we’ve developed a 3-step process to put emotional intelligence into action. Recently, I wrote about stepping through fear, and described the steps as FOG. Want to make an emotionally intelligent choice?

FOG:
F: Feelings. What’s going on inside?
O: Options. How could I respond?
G: Goals. Why might I move forward?

The same steps apply when solving a problem between people…

A neuroscience researcher reveals 4 rituals that will make you a happier person

A neuroscience researcher reveals 4 rituals that will make you a happier person | All About Coaching | Scoop.it
Find happiness with these methods.

UCLA neuroscience researcher Alex Korb has some insights that can create an upward spiral of happiness in your life.

Here’s what you and I can learn from the people who really have answers

Ariana Amorim's insight:
Sum up
Here's what brain research says will make you happy:

Ask "What am I grateful for?" No answers? Doesn't matter. Just searching helps.

Label those negative emotions. Give it a name and your brain isn't so bothered by it.

Decide. Go for "good enough" instead of 'best decision ever made on Earth."

Hugs, hugs, hugs. Don't text — touch.

So what's the simple way to start that upward spiral of happiness? Just send someone a thank-you email. If you feel awkward about it, you can send them this post to tell them why.

Having a Pity Party - When it's a Good Idea! - The Launchpad - The Coaching Tools Company Blog

Having a Pity Party - When it's a Good Idea! - The Launchpad - The Coaching Tools Company Blog | All About Coaching | Scoop.it

One of the biggest issues our modern culture has today is that we don’t pay enough attention to our emotions. Society places learning, knowledge, achievement and money ABOVE how we feel.

As a result, many of us – and our clients – are so distanced from our emotions that we make choices that go against our very nature. And whether it’s a small or big decision makes little difference, because over time even small actions add up.

And where does this leave us? It leaves us feeling discomfited, uncomfortable, grumpy, stressed, unhappy, wanting more from life but not knowing why, confused – and in some cases anxious and depressed.

Our feelings are there whether we acknowledge them or not. And helping our clients learn to identify, listen to, respect and learn from the information in their feelings is essential if we want them to have fulfilling lives.

So, when IS it a good idea to have a “Pity Party?”
