Guia para o uso de blogs na Educação.

Joaquin J. Martínez's curator insight, May 4, 8:08 AM

How Positive Emotions Lead to Better Health

How Positive Emotions Lead to Better Health | Alive and Learning | Scoop.it

New research suggests that meditation or any other mood-enhancing activity can serve as a nutrient for the human body.

“Positive emotion, positive social connections, and physical health influence one another in a self-sustaining, upward-spiral dynamic,” concludes a research team led by psychologist Bethany Kok of the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences. It found upbeat emotions inspired by a meditative practice led to greater feelings of connectedness with others, which positively impacted “a biological resource that has been linked to numerous health benefits.”

True, reflection is a key. I have had an accident when I was 15 years of age that left me on a hospital bed for a long time. I had plenty of time to reflect there about my life and what I want to do with it ... When I got out of that hospital, I was a changed man. I keep a journal now and it still continues to make a difference in my life. Reflecting on what is happening ... What made a difference? Rule number 1 - know yourself, Rule number 2 - know who you want to become, Rule number 3 - work towards that vision with patience until you start seeing the fruits of your work. It works, but it takes time and effort :-)

The Endurance - Documentary about Enerst Shackleton's quest to cross the Antarctic

Full documentary about one of the most intriguing leadership achievements in history.

In 1909, Ernest Shackleton set out to be the first to cross the Antarctic continent.

The expedition met disastrous results when its ship became trapped and ultimately crushed in the ice pack. Shackleton and his 26-man crew endured the long polar winter before ultimately finding rescue following an 800-mile open boat voyage on the Weddell sea.

Against all odds, the entire crew of The Endurance survived.

The best part about this is that people are sharing their knowledge and ideas without expecting any immediate return on their investment of time and resources. Instead, there is a sort of unwritten rule to “pay it forward” because someday soon you will be the one needing advice.

Ana Cristina Pratas's curator insight, June 2, 5:25 AM

"Confidence that a 'one size fits all' global economy and that the 'Western canon' of knowledge are sufficient to see humanity through the next phase of its transformations and adjustments has diminished dramatically over the past years.

We have an economic system that is certainly not a tide that floats all boats. We have challenges to the dominance of traditional knowledge claims as well. What does this mean for higher education, for social responsibility and for the way forward?"
