The Five Most Inspirational Speeches Of Our Time That Will Be Sure To Motivate You

The Five Most Inspirational Speeches Of Our Time That Will Be Sure To Motivate You | Alive and Learning | Scoop.it

Inspiration is a stimulating feeling that we seek to motivate us, to continue pressing forward through hardships and to find meaning amidst chaos. What inspires us is sometimes found in the rarest of forms. It is sometimes in plain sight. It is often stumbled upon without intention, and it is sometimes graciously handed to us in the form of wise words, spoken by experienced and influential minds.

For those who are feeling aimlessly lost in the journey to find themselves, those who are feeling stuck under the darkest clouds waiting for a ray of sunshine and those who simply need a dose of encouragement, heed these words of wisdom.

From some of the most gifted minds to the greatest influencers of our generation; from currently eminent leaders to those illustrious leaders who made a difference and left us too soon, here are some of the most inspirational speeches of our time in chronological order.

As I indicated in my post "What Inspires You?", I think inspirational and motivational speeches are wonderful for getting you moving again when you are stuck, giving you a kick in the butt when you are feeling sorry for yourself, or just reminding you of how great you really are. Here are five amazing speeches I will be adding to my Inspiration Library.

Blended Learning is Not the Only Way to Personalize Learning

Blended Learning is Not the Only Way to Personalize Learning | Alive and Learning | Scoop.it

Blended learning means offering a combination of face-to-face and online learning opportunities to learners. Blending these learning opportunities can contribute to personalizing learning. However, blended learning is not the only approach that personalizes learning. Personalizing learning starts with the learner. This means that learners have a stake in their learning by taking responsibility for their learning. When they own and drive their learning, they are more motivated to want to learn. In a learning environment that starts with the learner, teacher and learner roles change.

The research at the Students at the Center (studentsatthecenter.org) wrote nine reports on student-centered learning. Eric Toshalls, Ed.D., and Michael Nakkula, Ed.D. in one report, wrote the research on “Learning Theory: Motivation, Engagement and Student Voice” that described:

The Trifecta of Student Centered Learning

Motivation - Without motivation, there is no push to learn
Engagement - Without engagement, there is no way to learn
Voice - Without voice, there is no authenticity in learning

“For students to create a new knowledge, to succeed academically, and to develop into healthy adults, they require each of these experiences.” -Toshalls and Nakkula

Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
Personalized learning as described in the research at Brown is built on the framework of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) that is based upon decades of brain-research and neuroscience of individual differences, human variability and on how we learn. UDL is often thought about how it relates to special education, but to dispel that myth, the UDL principles is about how we understand how every learner learns.

I think this is a great article. While getting at the idea of motivation from the negative standpoint I think that this article has great do nots when it comes to try and motivate employees. To often bosses treat their employees like idiots which begs the question, "Why did you hire this person in the first place if you thought they were an idiot?" I think that by knowing what not to do you can easily ccatch yourself when you  realize you are projecting  these behaviors.

What Motivates Creativity? | Moments of Genius | Big Think | Alive and Learning | Scoop.it

Extrinsic motivation, in contrast, is the daily pressure we feel from outside incentives – grades, salaries, and promotions – put in place to encourage output. Here’s the question: Is creative output the product of intrinsic or extrinsic motivation? Do we need a reason to work? Or is passion enough?
