Alcohol is still killing the equivalent of 20 people a week in Scotland despite a fall in booze-related deaths, it has been warned.  NHS Health Scotland called for further action to ensure that reductions in alcohol deaths continue. There were more than 1,000 recorded in 2012.

Over a six-year period, Ecstasy-related emergency department visits rose 128 percent for those younger than 21 (USA)

Hospital emergency department visits related to the dangerous hallucinogenic drug Ecstasy, sometimes known as “Molly,” increased 128 percent between 2005 and 2011 (from 4,460 visits in 2005 to 10,176 visits in 2011) for visits among patients younger than 21 years old, according to a new report from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

Charitable people who give donations to street beggars in Liverpool have been warned "your kindness could kill".  "Misplaced generosity" could simply be feeding drug or alcohol addiction, Liverpool Charity and Voluntary Services (LCVS) said.  Liverpool City Council said there were between 20 to 30 persistent beggars in the city who have "refused" help.

How is this helpful?  Because people have 'refused help', does that mean they should be punished by those who are supposed to be supporting them?   You might not like the choices they make, but they have the right to make them.
