HSBC has confirmed it is to pay US authorities $1.9bn (£1.2bn) in a settlement over money laundering, the largest paid in such a case. The UK-based bank was alleged to have helped launder money belonging to drug cartels and states under US sanctions.

This article shows that teenagers can change their drinking habits, and that alcohol use by younger teenagers is dropping. The number of 12 to 15 year olds classified as current drinkers, dropped from 17% in 2008 to 11% in 2011, and the number of 16 and 17 year olds who drank in the past week dropped from 38% in 2008 to 33% in 2011.

The idea of a royal commission to consider decriminalising illegal drugs has been ruled out by the prime minister.
ReGenUC's insight:

A report by the home affairs select committee highlighted Portugal's approach, where criminal penalties are not imposed on users who enter into special programmes designed to end their habits. Paul Spittlehouse, a recovering drug user, urged the government to consider the proposals. "When I was in the midst of my chaotic drug use I wasn't affected at all by the threat of criminal conviction," he told the BBC.
