Study findings could offer roadmap for preventing deaths from drug overdoses (USA)

Results from a new study show that participants in drug overdose education programs tend to be parents (mostly mothers) who provide financial support for their son/daughter, have daily contact with their loved one, have applied for court-mandated treatment and have witnessed an overdose.

Prisons will soon be smoke free because guards were finding way more cigarettes than the smoke quota allowed within prison cells. Prisoners were even forcing non-smokers to buy cigarettes to add to their stash. So on July 1, there will be no more cigarettes and in their place will be nicotine patches and 24/hour access to Quitline telephone support service.

Court Services Victoria last week posted a request for tender for organisations to run a youth diversion program.

Helping young people get the support they need will generally be preferable to sending them to prison. Diversion programs are an effective strategy for preventing future offending.
