Over the past months, thousands of people who use drugs and people suspected of using and/or selling drugs have been killed in the Philippines. The Filipino President, Rodrigo Duterte, is responsible: he has repeatedly encouraged the police and the general public to murder people suspected of being drug users and/or of dealing drugs. As a result, people who use drugs no longer have the right to life in the Philippines.

Australia's drinking culture is so ingrained that people wanting to cut back on the booze often feel stigmatised and socially isolated, new research has found. A study conducted at the University of Adelaide and published in the journal Drug and Alcohol Review has highlighted the social pressures Australians experience when they try to stop or reduce their alcohol consumption.

It was once a habit taken up by the cool kids at school but smoking is now being shunned by students. There's been a drop in the number of high school students taking up the habit, with fewer than a fifth having puffed on a cigarette in 2014 compared to 23 per cent three years earlier.
