Victorian crystal methamphetmine, ice, epidemic, is is it?

It’s been a topic of particular interest to us out here in the bush because we keep reading reports of how bad our meth problem actually is. There is no doubt that it’s as bad as it is in Melbourne or other metropolitan areas. And yet just 2 per cent of the population use it and of them just 14.5 per cent have a dependency. The inference is that 84 per cent of those who do use it are recreational users. (Men aged 20-35, including tradies, are a high-risk group. A lot smoke it.)

Wow, two pieces on the same day!  Do we need to look to regional and rural areas for a less hysterical response to methamphetamines?

Interlocks to make drink-drivers think twice (Vic)

They say you should not mix your drinks, but from 1 October there are even more reasons not to mix your drinking and driving. Minister for Roads, Terry Mulder said today that the expanded alcohol interlock program starting on 1 October will be tougher than ever on drink drivers and will make people think twice about having 'just one more'.

Melbourne men believe they contracted HIV through ice use with a ground-breaking study finding a "convincing significant association" between the drug and soaring rates of the infection.

More than 30 years later, having lost her husband, her home and her business to drugs, she is still battling her addiction. But, like almost all female drug addicts in this former Soviet state, she has faced a desperate struggle not only with her drug problem, but with accessing help in the face of institutionalised and systematic discrimination because of her gender.
