For treating patients with prescription opioid dependence in primary care,buprenorphine maintenance therapy is superior to detoxification, according to a new study by Yale School of Medicine researchers published in the Oct. 20 issue of JAMA Internal Medicine.

A Sydney doctor on the frontline of the crystal meth or ice scourge says education and prevention is the key to combating the epidemic. Last night, the Four Corners program highlighted a desperate lack of treatment services in regional areas and the under-resourced police force struggling to cope. Professor Gordian Fulde from St Vincent's Hospital in Sydney says its crucial education is part of the solution.
