Too much booze for teens (NSW)

Bottle shops have been accused of doing too little to stop the flow of alcohol into young hands after a national study found Warrnambool’s teenage drinking rates are among the worst.

Via ReGenUC
brayden's insight:

This shows that teens are getting easy access to alcohol and that bottle shop owners arent doing much to stop it. This goes well with the alcohol topic.

Ethan Dorrian's curator insight, November 13, 2014 7:23 PM

This article displays how the rising number of teens are getting their hands on alcohol at younger ages. Results showed that more people drink underage in more regional areas rather than metro areas. It also states the results from Deakin University, showing that 57% of 14 year olds have tried alcohol and received it from people of legal age.

This article uses real statistics and opinions of residents in the area of the place where the statistics are being measured. It also finishes with a statement of: “Ignoring it is not going to make any difference.  There needs to be more research.” making the reader want to do something about the situation.

Ash Dribbus's curator insight, April 7, 2015 9:42 PM

This article talks about how the environment around kids can effect if they drink underage. It reveals many statistics related to underage drinking for example 57 per cent of 300 14-year-olds have tried drinking.

It also mentions that parents have effects on underage drinking as they let children try alcohol at a young age, also it has been noted that parents seem to be ready to supply alcohol. The article states that underage drinking is a cultural thing and the effects and issues related to underage drinking.

Isabel Bodey's curator insight, May 19, 2015 2:52 AM

This is very distressing that bottle shops are being a bit too easy on selling alcohol to underage drinkers. When selling to a younger looking person they must check their ID just in case they are buying alcohol below the age of 18. It is also distressing that teenage drinking is among the worst at this time.

brayden's insight:

This article relates to what we're doing because it tells us how contraception methods can be freely accesed by teens.
