atomiccrush's curator insight, December 12, 2015 1:33 AM

The whole notion of lobbying against government interference in the internet has now proved to be farcical. In itself this is a very sad story but it is clearly the new reality.... the latest activities of the American government could see a whole range of countries now trying to develop local policies, and this could easily lead to a far more serious undermining of all of the principles for which the internet stands.

Showing by Doing: How Elynn Fish is using Curation to Become a Resource and Help her Clients Become one Too

Showing by Doing: How Elynn Fish is using Curation to Become a Resource and Help her Clients Become one Too | alarm companies in seattle | Scoop.it

As any entrepreneur can tell you, building a business isn't easy. In Elynn Fish's case, it was even more difficult, beacuse she was building a business based upon a concept that not many of her clients were even familiar with-digital marketing. In fact, as we previously mentioned, Elynn was still in the process of learning about curation herself! Luckily for her, and for her clients, content curation is not only a tool for marketing, but it's also a tool for learning.

Most of Elynn's clients hadn't ever heard of curation before they began doing business with her. However, as she was using it throughout the process of building her business and establishing her early clients as resources in their fields, it wasn't difficult to convince her new clients that she had the answers that they wanted. By continuing her learning process as well as that of her clients, Elynn was able to demonstrate her expertise and easily prove to her business prospects they would be able to demonstrate theirs as well.

Now, Elynn's large client base has learned how to use curation not only for their digital marketing efforts but as a resource as well. By turning herself into a resource via curation, Elynn was able to demonstrate that this would be the case for her clients once they built their Scoop.it pages.

Essentially, Elynn Fish was able to use curation to do for herself exactly what she was able to do for potential clients; building an expertise and becoming a resource.

Calgary frustrated by slow progress on regional land-use plan

Calgary frustrated by slow progress on regional land-use plan | alarm companies in seattle | Scoop.it
The Calgary regional coalition remains marred by squabbling and holdouts, five years after Calgary and its neighbours were supposed to ratify a plan to swap concentrated growth in rural areas for access to city water and sewer services.

Jody MacPherson's curator insight, May 13, 2014 9:52 PM

Calgary holds far more water licence capacity than it needs, a precious commodity because the province has barred new drawing rights in the fragile Bow River watershed. For Rocky View to pursue development plans in West Balzac, it likely needs Calgary’s assistance, and the city has long used regional partnership as a lever to access that help.

“We do have landowners who desperately want servicing,” Reeve Margaret Bahcheli said. “Yes, there is very real pressure: top-down from Calgary, and from some of the residents up.”

But many county residents agree with politicians it’s risky to join a partnership in which the largest player — Calgary — can veto any major board decisions.

Dispatches from IDPF Digital Book 2014, Pt. 3: DRM | Copyright and Technology

Dispatches from IDPF Digital Book 2014, Pt. 3: DRM | Copyright and Technology | alarm companies in seattle | Scoop.it

The final set of interesting developments at last week’s IDPF Digital Book 2014 in NYC has to do with DRM and rights. DRM may disappear from trade e-books. But will that happen for the right reasons.

DRM has become something of a taboo subject even at conferences like this, so most of the rest of the discussion about it took the form of hallway buzz.  And the buzz is that many are predicting that DRM will be on its way out for retail trade e-books within the next couple of years.
