"Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim, Minister of Antiquities, announced that the Egyptian Spanish mission headed by Dr. Myriam Seco Alvarez working in the funerary temple of Thutmosis III on West Bank, Luxor has discovered a black granite head representing a King of the New Kingdom. The discovered head measures 29.6 cm height,

24.3 cm width and 26.9 cm depth. The Minister said that the first look on the details of discovered statue head shows that it is likely belongs to a statue of a king followed the reign of Thutmosis III but to determine for sure, it would require more study. Mohamed Abd Al Maqsoud, head of the Egyptian Antiquities department said the head was discovered in the trench at the northern side of the second courtyard of the funerary temple.  He added "the head shows with a wig, round face and 8 cm long ears. Nose and chin are broken but part of the neck is still there."

The remains of a mansion that likely held high-ranking officials some 4,500 years ago have been discovered near Egypt's Giza Pyramids. Bones from young cattle and teeth from leopards suggest its residents ate and dressed like royalty.

Possibly the first-known mummified erect penis, and other burial anomalies, were not accidents during embalming, but rather deliberate attempts to make the king appear as Osiris, the god of the underworld, in as literal a way as possible.

Without a proper vessel, none of the processes of of alchemy can be accomplished. There must be a container in order to differentiate the various substances from the massa confusa, of which Thomas Moore writes, "It takes a special frame of mind, a particular archetypal viewpoint...to enter the alchemical massa confusa..." The unconscious is this chaos, the prima materia of the Great Work. The need for a vessel begins the alchemical stage called separatio.

Eva Rider's curator insight, December 27, 2013 4:17 PM

In psychological terms, we view the  proper container as ego. Building a sense of self identity strong enough to recieve the power of the transformative energies which dismember, dissolve and transform the self to become something entirely "other than its orignal form while retaining its unique blueprint.

ARCE-NOLA's curator insight, January 14, 2014 2:50 PM
"This past weekend ARCE assisted in the opening of two sites in Egypt, Deir el-Shelwit on the west bank in Luxor and Mut Temple on the east bank inside Karnak Temple.

The Roman period temple at Deir el Shelwit was built between the 1st and 2nd centuries CE in honor of the goddess, Isis. Many emperors, over a period of approximately 100 years added to the temple, and it is one of the last in Egypt to have had a government building campaign. The propylon, or gateway, in front of the temple is the original entrance into the complex. It is elaborately decorated with scenes of the king making offerings to various gods.

While Mut Temple has been a focus of extensive archaeological excavation by both the Brooklyn Museum and Johns Hopkins University, it has never been open to tourists. ARCE’s work focused on clearing the site of weeds, cleaning the sacred lake, building platforms to display statuary, creating pathways and laying new stone flooring in the temple precinct, as well as installing solar panel lighting and signage.

Both projects have been funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)."

John Ward's curator insight, December 21, 2013 5:54 AM

Archaeologists have discovered a panel containing the only known example of spider rock art in Egypt and, it appears, the entire Old World.

The rock panel, now in two pieces, was found on the west wall of a shallow sandstone wadi, or valley, in the Kharga Oasis, located in Egypt's western desert about 108 miles (175 kilometers) west ofLuxor.
