How we learn to read another’s mind by looking into their eyes – Tobias Grossmann | Aeon Ideas

How we learn to read another’s mind by looking into their eyes – Tobias Grossmann | Aeon Ideas | Aladin-Fazel | Scoop.it
All in all, the ability to read other minds develops early in human infancy, and is deeply influenced by cues from the eyes. The phenomenon requires no explicit, conceptual grasp of other minds, but rather relies on direct experience of others’ emotional and mental states.

The Mysterious Mind of Carl Gustav Jung

Could there be any deeper insights one may garner from reading Jung’s explanations for things the likes of the archetypal “grotesque hobgoblins” he mentions, when presented in their original context (and language)?

Religion and the Rebel, Part 20 - Soul Spelunker

Religion and the Rebel, Part 20 - Soul Spelunker | Aladin-Fazel | Scoop.it
There is one more play that needs to be dealt with, in light of the Outsider philosophy: Back to Methuselah. For a general summary of the play, see Wilson’s commentary on pages 279-283 of Religion and the Rebel, or read the Wikipedia article here. Wilson does not view every act of the play as valuable. He sees the last act, As Far as Thought Can Reach, as one of Shaw’s masterpieces. We will concentrate on it. This part of Shaw’s play... Read More Read More

Hear Debussy Play Debussy: A Vintage Recording from 1913 | Aladin-Fazel | Scoop.it
Debussy sat down at a contraption called a Welte-Mignon reproducing piano and recorded a series of performances for posterity.  The machine was designed to encode the nuances of a pianist's playing, including pedaling and dynamics, onto piano rolls for later reproduction, like the one above.

Pan, the Goat-God of Nature - Soul Spelunker

Pan, the Goat-God of Nature - Soul Spelunker | Aladin-Fazel | Scoop.it
To further mix the contexts: let us say that the world of nature, Pan’s world, is in a continual state of subliminal panic just as it is in a continual state of subliminal sexual excitation. As the world is made by Eros, held together by that cosmogonic force and charged with the libidinal desire that is Pan…so its other side, panic, recognised by the Buddha belongs to the same constellation. Again, we come back to Pan and the two extremes of instinct (Hillman, xxvii-xxviii).

The Doctors of Soul: Sigmund Freud - Soul Spelunker | Aladin-Fazel | Scoop.it
Freud, circa 1900 What can we say about the great Sigmund Freud that hasn’t already been said? Even though I disagree with him on many points, there is no doubt the man was one of history’s great minds. Without his paving the way for those who followed him, especially C.G. Jung, would we even be discussing depth psychology as we do today? Instead of rehashing Freud’s biography, I will merely quote two pertinent paragraphs from the Wikipedia article about him:...
