The act of mummification is such a weird and interesting subject. So learning more about it and what happenss along with it was so informative.

We have here a question: "How is it that we create symbols in dreams? How can we be sure that the interpretation is correct, especially when there are no associations?" That is, of course, a very practical and fundamental question. I had not taken it up here because I took it for granted that you understood the theory of dream analysis. We are by no means sure that dreams have symbolic meaning, and we don't know that the interpretation is correct, but we make the hypothesis that a dream means something. Suppose one has a case that presents a difficult problem and one has come to an impasse in the analysis, there are neurotic symptoms, one has tried hypnosis and other methods, but nothing works. Then where is the key to unlock that door?

The Mystic Fool: Masks & Mirrors of the SELF in Tarot—Intro Lecture by Eva Rider

The Mystic Fool: Masks & Mirrors of the SELF in Tarot—Intro Lecture by Eva Rider | Aladin-Fazel | Scoop.it

The Archetypal Images of the Tarot's Major Arcana serve as a guide through the alchemical changes that initiate us to reclaiming the Self. In a time of vast planetary changes, polarities, transitions, quickening and metamorphosis, it’s easy to find ourselves caught in grief, fear and despair.

We are on a journey of initiation to learn to inhabit our role as creator, mediator and steward of the gods. Through close examination of the Major Arcana of the Tarot, we find that ancient archetypal pathways reveal the masks and mirrors of ourselves and the initiations we undergo on our path to consciousness.

It’s an ungainly word for English speakers, which is maybe why we do not hear it often: Gleichschaltung. Yet the concept remains central for a clear view of what happened to Germany in the 1930s.

The Poor People’s Campaign: The Good Fight

The Poor People’s Campaign: The Good Fight | Aladin-Fazel | Scoop.it
“The U.S. is in a moral crisis. We need to challenge private morality. There is a deep moral under-pinning of progressive ideas. We must deal with systemic racism, war economy, health care and redistribution of wealth. We are now engaged in the greatest transference of wealth since the days of slavery. We take money and give to the greedy while letting other people die of need. . . like in the Post Civil War era, when the Freedman’s Bureau Hospitals health care was given, then taken away. Today there are familiar arguments to justify the new take-aways, arguments that people do not deserve health care.”

When I first read news of the now-infamous Google memo writer who claimed with a straight face that women are biologically unsuited to work in science and tech, I nearly choked on my cereal. A dozen examples instantly crowded to mind of women who have pioneered the very basis of our current technology while operating at an extreme disadvantage in a culture that explicitly believed they shouldn’t be there, this shouldn’t be happening, women shouldn’t be able to do a “man’s job!”

The memo, as Megan Molteni and Adam Rogers write at Wired, “is a species of discourse peculiar to politically polarized times: cherry-picking scientific evidence to support a pre-existing point of view.” Its specious evolutionary psychology pretends to objectivity even as it ignores reality.

The spiritual climax is reached at the moment when life ends. Human life, therefore, is the vehicle of the highest perfection it is possible to attain; it alone generates the karma that makes it possible for the dead man to abide in the perpetual light of the Voidness without clinging to any object, and thus to rest on the hub of the wheel of rebirth, freed from all illusion of genesis and decay.

The Map: Poltava, 1709 | History Today

The Map: Poltava, 1709 | History Today | Aladin-Fazel | Scoop.it
As exploration opened up the world in the 16th and 17th centuries, cartography became a lucrative industry in the Low Countries, controlled by a core group of families. Many women worked in these ateliers, particularly in colouring and painting. Anna van Westerstee Beeck (c.1697-1717) was one such figure. After 15 years of marriage and seven children, her husband, Barents, deserted her in 1693. She later divorced him and the courts awarded her full control of the business. This was not unusual: a third of the known female map-makers in this world were widows.
