This will include resources from all of the best sources, from Apple’s own stuff to TeachThought to edutopia to MindShift to DMLCentral to Jackie Gerstein and more. We can update it, or make it a wiki to crowdsource the process, or you can add suggestions in the comments below. Based on the activity of the comments, and the sharing of the post, we’ll decide how to handle it moving forward.

Commonwealth of Learning - Large-Scale, Government-Supported Educational Tablet Initiatives

Commonwealth of Learning - Large-Scale, Government-Supported Educational Tablet Initiatives | Ala | Scoop.it

A growing number of countries are embarking on large-scale, government-supported initiatives to distribute tablet devices to students in the K–12 schooling sector. Unfortunately, there is a misconception that by simply putting this technology in the hands of students, educational access issues will be resolved and educational transformation will occur. In this research project, a systematic review of current government-supported tablet initiatives around the world was conducted to understand their origins, underlying principles, financial and organisational models, and expected outcomes. An extensive literature search and data extracted from identified documents showed that 11 countries have launched government-led tablet initiatives. The review concluded that the majority of these initiatives have been driven by the tablet hype rather than by educational frameworks or research-based evidence. Download the COL Report at: http://www.col.org/PublicationDocuments/COL-Tablet-Initiatives.pdf

7 Strategies That Are Transforming Mobile Apps | Marketing Technology Blog | Ala | Scoop.it

Just as every company is now a publisher (or should be) if they wish to have an effective digital strategy, I believe the next phase of growth will be that marketing departments of every company need to be involved in the development of mobile and/or tablet applications. If that doesn’t sound like a reality – I’ll provide an example.

We recently designed and developed a mobile application for engineers to use to make a plethora of different conversions for calculations they need to make daily. The company we built it for is a surface technology company. Does the application sell? No! That’s not the point – the point is to have the company’s name top of mind as engineers are working day to day. Greater brand awareness and click to contact calls to action enable them to take the next step. Immediately upon release, over 300 users in their industry downloaded the application and are utilizing it daily. It is a huge acquisition and retention win with a minimal investment.
