To Win Google's $30 Million Prize, Florida Students Offer To Fly Your DNA To The Moon

To Win Google's $30 Million Prize, Florida Students Offer To Fly Your DNA To The Moon | Ajarn Donald's Educational News | Scoop.it

A group of Florida students will fly your DNA to the moon if you give them $10,000 to help them build their lunar rover.

They are one of 26 teams participating in Google's Lunar X contest with $30 million in prize money at stake. To win the money the teams' lunar robot has to land on the moon, travel 500 meters and send video, images and data back to the Earth.

Teams also have to be "privately funded" -- meaning no governments. So a Florida team that calls itself Omega Envoy, has turned to Kickstarter to raise $200,000. For its big-wig sponsors pledging $10,000 or more, the Omega Envoy is offering to fly your DNA to the moon, in addition to letting you drive the rover and other assorted goodies.

Omega Envoy is a team from a firm called Earthrise Space Inc. (ESI), a non-profit that matches students and industry professionals to build commercial spacecraft stuff.

So far, the team doesn't have many takers. It's only raised about $2,000 from 37 backers. The biggest pledge so far is $300, which gets you a small-scale model of the Lunar Rover as a prize, plus a T-shirt and other tchotchkes. But there are 17 days left, so here's hoping they make their fundraising goal.

Google selected the teams in 2010 and they have until 2015 to get to the Moon, drive around and take video. Here's the thing the Omega Envoy team is trying to build.

Sound familiar? So he did what many of us do and started teaching English.

As marketing partner in Thailand for Paris-based English Attack! he helps teenagers and adults create a user account so that they can begin learning/improving their English language skills.

He also help teachers, schools, universities, private language centers, groups and companies select the right plan that is best for them.

He will be offering all schools, language centers and universities a FREE 30-Day Trial for all their English language teachers and their students too. After the 30-Day trial they will be offered a very special price if they decide to buy.

This is going to be a very special price for English Attack! Thailand to show support for TEN members.

Inspire Pattaya - Thailand Schools Learning English | Ajarn Donald's Educational News | Scoop.it
Ajarn Donald's insight:

With your careful consideration and generous donations I hope to raise enough funds to help 2,000 teenage students to learn English in 10 Thai government secondary schools. I also estimate about 40-60 teachers will receive the teacher’s passes for FREE. We want them to be able to have fun while learning with the English Attack! Online Learning platform. That is less than $13.00 per student for a year of unlimited learning and this platform has follow up games which ought to keep them wanting to learn English. I am also trying to find some local corporations to sponsor some competitions to help keep these teenage learners motivated
