"Following the migration crisis and the Paris attacks, where two of the suspects entered the European Union pretending to be refugees, the EU is considering a plan to introduce a “permanent external border control force“. This is why one of the most important things which are currently happening in the EU concerns its so-called “external borders”. Indeed, the European Commission is trying to adopt a set of urgent measures to manage those borders and protect the Schengen area (the zone comprising the 26 European countries that have abolished any type of ..."

(MULTI) - IATE term of the week: cyber-security | TermCoord | Glossarissimo! | Scoop.it

"For many of you the term of this week might seem far from reality, an issue rather related to science fiction, suitable for a screenplay or, even better, a videogame’s plot eaten up by hackers and nerds. But, indeed, cybersecurity has become a real concern at an international scale; now it has finally arrived at European legislation.

As it has been recently discussed by Members of the European Parliament, cyber-attacks are real threats that may cause the disruption of “essential services we take for granted such as electricity, water, healthcare, or transport services.”

The US government, the most active actor of the so-called cyber war together with China, is especially careful in this matter spending $12 million a year on cybersecurity and often stressing the worldwide incensement of ..."

PuertoTerm: Coastal Engineering: knowledge structure and generation of terminological resources (BFF2003-04720) funded by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science (2003-2006).
MarcoCosta: Multilingual knowledge frames in the integrated management of coastal areas (PO6-HUM-01489), funded by the Andalusian Regional Government (2006-2009).
Ecosistema: Single information space for frame-based environmental data and thesaurus (FFI2008-06080.C03-01/FILO), funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (2008-2011).
RECORD: Knowledge Representation in Dynamic Networks (FFI2011-22397), funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (2012-2014)
EcoLexicon represents the conceptual structure of the specialized domain of the Environment in the form of a visual thesaurus. This thesaurus has been elaborated according to the theoretical premises of Frame-Based Terminology. Consequently, each concept appears in the context of a specialized frame that highlights its relation to other concepts, and makes explicit its designations in English, Spanish, German, French, Russian, and Greek. Through the convergence of conceptual, linguistic and graphical information, EcoLexicon meets the needs of different users groups (people interested in the Environment, students, translators, technical writers, etc.)."

"As you may know, the 2009 Stockholm Programme – “An open and secure Europe serving and protecting citizens” – stressed the importance of promoting the right to freedom of movement. Freedom of movement means that “you are allowed to live, work or start a business in another EU country”, but, of course, there are often bureaucratic hurdles to overcome. For instance, getting public documents recognised can be costly and time consuming – and this is why, just recently, Parliament’s legal affairs committee approved an agreement with the Council to make it ..."

(MULTI) (PDF) - EU -Non-binding guide to good practice for implementing Directive 2013/35/EU Electromagnetic Fields | EU-OSHA | Glossarissimo! | Scoop.it

"The Directive 2013/35/EU lays down the minimum safety requirements regarding the exposure of workers to risks arising from electromagnetic fields (EMF). This practical guide has been prepared to assist employers, particularly small to medium sized enterprises, to understand what they will need to do to comply with the Directive. However, it may also be useful for workers, workers representations and regulatory authorities in Member States. It consists of two volumes and a specific guide for SMEs.

The practical guide volume 1 provides advice on carrying out risk assessment and further advice on the options that may be available where employers need to implement additional protective or preventive measures.
Volume 2 presents twelve case studies that show employers how to approach assessments and illustrate some of the preventive and protective measures that might be selected and implemented. The case studies are presented in the context of generic workplaces, but were compiled from real work situations.
The guide for SMEs will assist employers to carry out an initial assessment of the risks from EMF in the workplace. Based on the outcome of this assessment, it will help to decide whether there is a need to take any further action as a result of the EMF Directive."
