(DE)-(EN)-(FR)-(AR) – Technisches Wörterbuch ARABTERM | Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung | Glossarissimo! | Scoop.it

(TOOL) - Nigerian Scam Alerts Targeted at Translators/Interpretors | paymentpractices.net | Glossarissimo! | Scoop.it

""Nigerian check" and similar scams have long been a problem for the unwary. In recent years, the scam has evolved to target interpreters and translators specifically.

The basis scam works like this: A "potential client", sometimes an individual but recently also an "agency", sends a mass email asking about obtaining interpreting/translating services in the target's country. When they get a response, the "client" agrees to normal or even higher than normal fees and wants to make an advance payment for whatever reason. The target then receives a check or money order for the advance payment to deposit in the bank. Shortly thereafter, the client cancels the job and requests the money be refunded, which the uninformed target then does. But the check or money orders subsequently turn out to be forgeries or drawn on closed or non-existent accounts so the target's bank reverses the deposit and the target is out not only the deposit but any funds that he/she refunded to the ..."

"Anti-glare

An anti-glare screen is designed to cut down on the amount of light that reflects off the LCD display. Reflected light or glare can reduce the view ability of the display by impacting the contrast, colors and sharpness of the display.
The matte finish anti-glare computer screen also has a disadvantage, by scattering the light coming out of the display, resulting in a slightly less-crisp image for the viewer. A good way to choose between anti-glare finishes is to consider the environment in which you will be using your display. A light anti-glare touch screen may be well-suited for use when there is mostly ambient light that you can control. A heavier anti-glare maybe suited for environments where harsh overhead lighting or changing ambient light conditions are common.

Blob detection refers to the process of picking out bright areas of a camera image and somehow relaying them to a computer as a ..."

(EN)-(FR)-(DE)-(IT)-(PT)-(RU) - EMOdico | European Mortar Industry Organisation | Glossarissimo! | Scoop.it

"The EMOdico Online Dictionary is a quick tool for the translation and explanation of terms around mortar and ETICS.

Mortar itself has a tradition of several thousands of years. Gypsum based mortars have already been used 10.000 years ago. Lime came into operation 6.000 B.C., but it had been the Romans who first used lime as a constituent to produce mortar. Cement, which is actually the most important binder for mortars, has been invented in the 19th century. This was also the time when the production of factory made mortars begun.

In former days mortar was produced from local constituents being available in close proximity to the building site. This led to a wide variation in quality and durability. Growing demands on performance, workability and durability led to a total replacement of "site-made" mortars by factory made mortars.

Today factory made mortar is produced in modern automated factories providing hundreds of different mortars for all kinds of applications with a guarantee for constant quality and ..."

The Glossary of Ecclesiastical Ornament and Costume

"The Glossary is Pugins largest and most magnificent book. He intended that his two Dublin Review articles of 1842 would be accompanied by a third dealing with ornament and decoration. However, this developed into a grand survey church ornaments, vessels and vestments which are dealt with alphabetically, including long-forgotten ones he hoped to revive.

This masterly survey reveals the extraordinary breadth and depth of Pugins researches. Its chief glory lies in 73 superb chromolithographs showing correctly vested clergy and a wide range of patterns for embroidery, monograms and emblems. Never in modern days at least were illuminations more exquisite, concluded The Ecclesiologist (1844). Even today, Pugins Glossary remains a locus classicus for the church furnishing. The edition reproduced is that of 1846, revised and enlarged by the Rev. Bernard Smith. To it has been added an insightful introduction by Michael Fisher, author of the ..."
