"Hypertext encyclopedia of comics and animation - A Vast Repository of Toonological Knowledge. Welcome to the world's first hypertext encyclopedia of toons — which will soon, I hope, come to be regarded as the Internet's most comprehensive source of information about the U.S. toon scene. A toon is a cartoon or cartoon character — "cartoon" referring not just to the animated kind, but also to such "still cartoons" as comic books, newspaper strips, magazine cartoons, etc. Here at Don Markstein's Toonopedia™, we take a very broad view of what constitutes a toon. The basic idea is to cover the entire spectrum of American cartoonery. I realize I haven't exactly blanketed the field yet, but I think the thousand-plus toon topics I've written up so far should qualify at least as a light coverlet. And it will get more inclusive as time goes on, as I intend to continue adding new ones and updating the ones I've got, into the ..."

(EN) - Slot Car Racer's Glossary | John Ford

(EN) - Slot Car Racer's Glossary | John Ford | Glossarissimo! | Scoop.it
"In 1992, I created this dictionary / Glossary to give to those who purchased an American Slot Car Track. It was part of a complete new raceway owners package that came along for free with the purchase of a track. The purpose was twofold. One, to provide an education in slot car words and terms to those track owners who had not been involved in the sport for long, and two, intermingle some comedy throughout the list to keep it from becoming too boring.

To help you in looking up words, you will find that companies which are best known by the first and last name of an individual are listed by the first letter of the first name.

There has been enough requests for this book from racers all over the world for me to actually put it into print. This is the second edition, and many new words have ..."

(EN) - A Primer on Photographic Processes | The American Museum of Photography | Glossarissimo! | Scoop.it
"Photographers in the nineteenth century employed a wide variety of materials and processes; everything from honey to uranium found its way into one method or another. In some cases there is no way to tell, short of exacting scientific analysis, just what sort of variation was used to obtain a specific result. Most early photographs, however, fall into recognizable categories for which brief descriptions follow in alphabetical order."

(ET) - KOOMIKSISÕNASTIK | Ivar

(ET) - KOOMIKSISÕNASTIK | Ivar | Glossarissimo! | Scoop.it

(EN) - Coin Market Slang | John Michael Murbach | Glossarissimo! | Scoop.it
"America's coin market during the past quarter century has been an exhilarating, dynamic, and, at times, accursed affair. As with any of mankind's endeavors, whenever a homogeneous crowd like ours gathers to do business its trade talk, its jargon, takes on a bizarre and oftentimes humorous quality. Slang words are coined almost daily, although most get tossed onto the dunghill of forgotten memory within months. Indeed, where fast profits are possible a lively vocabulary evolves, coined by these scramblers for lucre. They turn complex words, sentences, or ideas into condensed concise slang; just as mankind's four-letter expletives have their windy counterparts in medicalese, so, too, does our adorable coin market usage undergo identical foreshortening. I mention this because rare coins came alive with such usage in the period immediately after President Nixon loosed our dying dollar's ties to gold in 1971. Wild swings in the business cycle translated into a roller coaster ride for coins. For example, where the profession of numismatics had been a nostalgic interlude for a few devout collectors, now our business grew into an industry, in the words of its growing dealer ranks. Coins became "material"; investment became the watchword of the era; new schools of thought developed; pricing schemes were ..."
