"Glossary of vocational education, training (VET) and labour market terms.
In order to be constructive and efficient, communication and dialogue need to be based on a common understanding of ideas, topics and terms, in particular when dealing with technical issues. During the first 2 years of activities of the ETF inTurkey, it became very clear that, in order to contribute to an effective local debate on vocational education training and employment, it would have been necessary:
- to agree on a common meaning and understanding of Turkish terms related to above fields;
- to provide the corresponding term intoEnglish, French and German in order to facilitate the participation of Turkey in the international debate related to on-going developments in these areas.
For this reason, the Turkish Employment Agency (ISKUR) asked to the ETF in 2003 to provide both the financial and technical support for the elaboration of Turkish/English/French/German Glossary of VETand labour market terms. The project has been implemented by the ETF’s NationalObservatory hosted by ISKUR. As possible models, the ETF has provided to Turkish experts the Glossaries which have been produced through an ETF’s pilot project in 1997 and a more up-dated one produced by CEDEFOP."
