New data shows that GM crops do not reduce the quantity of pesticides needed for crop production

September 22, 2012 WORLD WATCH INSTITUTE - by Catherine Word - Nourishing The Planet

Genetically Modified (GM) crops were first introduced into the commercial food production system in the late 1990s and, according to the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA), GM crops were being cultivated on more than 1 billion hectares around the world by 2010. During 2011, over 16 million farmers worldwide were involved in planting 160 million hectares of GM crops, making biotech crops the fastest adopted crop technology in modern times.

Issues noted by Benbrook surrounding GM crop technology include corporate control over the seed industry; the lack of an adequate response to herbicide resistance by the US government; loss of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) skills among farmers; and increased reliance on toxic chemical solutions in farming methods... http://blogs.worldwatch.org/nourishingtheplanet/benbrook-study-on-gm-crops-and-pesticides/

The Tragic Mistake That Now Threatens 1 Out of Every 3 Bites You Eat

The Tragic Mistake That Now Threatens 1 Out of Every 3 Bites You Eat | YOUR FOOD, YOUR HEALTH: Latest on BiotechFood, GMOs, Pesticides, Chemicals, CAFOs, Industrial Food | Scoop.it

The documentary film "Vanishing of the Bees" unveils the phenomenon called Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) and the real causes of bee death all over the U.S."

The danger of accumulated pesticides in the environment and the lack of USA federal agency oversight in favor of manufacturers's studies without independent review is a major cause for concern.  90% of food we eat is treated with pesticides, over a billion pounds of these toxic chemicals are used annually on the huge agricultural western monocrop farms.

Before releasing these highly toxic chemicals into our environment, a responsible nation would ensure that independent interdisciplinary studies are carried out to determine affects on both our ecosystems AND human health.

OUR POLLINATORS ARE GOING...Are Pesticides Pushing Honeybee Die-offs Past the Tipping Point?

OUR POLLINATORS ARE GOING...Are Pesticides Pushing Honeybee Die-offs Past the Tipping Point? | YOUR FOOD, YOUR HEALTH: Latest on BiotechFood, GMOs, Pesticides, Chemicals, CAFOs, Industrial Food | Scoop.it

Although news about honeybee Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) has died down, commercial beekeepers have seen average population losses of about 30 percent each year since 2006. More than 70 crops they pollinate -- from almonds to apples to blueberries -- are in peril...http://organicconnectmag.com/wp/are-pesticides-pushing-honeybee-die-offs-past-the-tipping-point/#.UL1ZXYXZ03Z

OUR CHEMICAL-LADEN WORLD: Are the Bees the Canary in the Coal Mine for Human Health and Well Being

OUR CHEMICAL-LADEN WORLD: Are the Bees the Canary in the Coal Mine for Human Health and Well Being | YOUR FOOD, YOUR HEALTH: Latest on BiotechFood, GMOs, Pesticides, Chemicals, CAFOs, Industrial Food | Scoop.it

IN THE winter of 2006 beekeepers in America noticed something odd—lots of their hives were dying for no obvious reason." And the pesticide/chemical industry is still in denial.

Evidence is growing that commonly used pesticides, even when employed carefully, are bad for bees (and us?)

(It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that as bees move from flower to flower they are gathering more and more of these toxic chemicals.  Their little immune systems can't handle it and this weakness makes them vulnerable to all sorts of viruses and illness. Beyond this, we humans eat the honey they work so hard to make.  Connecting the dots could it be that the same pesticides sprayed on the food we eat be a cause for the massive alzheimers epidemic also? pdjmoo)
