Agriculture and the Natural World
This is an exploration of agriculture and how it relates to the environment.  Whether you call it agroecology or eco-agriculture or permaculture these all offer alternative approaches to industrial agriculture that are far more sustainable. This page will highlight good, bad and neutral news related to environmental, economical and socially sustainable agriculture.

In situ conservation has to be a part of the seed saving goals in all of these projects because there are limits to how long seeds can be saved and remain viable. This is why seed saving projects are an organizational challenge since seeds either need to be replaced by fresh supplies and/or taken out and grown again for new seed production. I like this list regardless.

Lose Your Lawn the Bay-Friendly Way

Lose Your Lawn the Bay-Friendly Way | Agriculture and the Natural World | Scoop.it
Replace your lawn with a healthy garden that works for you. By using Bay-Friendly practices, you can conserve water, natural resources and prevent pollution. And with sheet mulching, you can plant directly on top of the lawn, saving time and money.
Darin Hoagland's insight:

Lawns have a traditional place in landscaping but unfortunately are a waste of time and resources for most residential or even commercial locations.  Weeding, fertilizing, mowing and watering efforts are much reduced in an established climate-appropriate native-friendly landscaping application.   Lose your lawn and gain a more beautiful and sustainable landscape.

Darin Hoagland's insight:

Retaining farmers and ranchers who are good land stewards is critical for conservation and the future of sustainable farming and ranching.  They maintain a great deal of land acreage. The 2012 Farm Bill waits for passage but can farmers, ranchers and our natural resources wait?
