I see a future when these are extremely commonplace and every village, town and city has vertical farms on roofs, on repurposed wasteland, repurposed factories, even underground!  We will solve the energy crisis - we already have the ability, we just currently lack the will to change.  Diminishing water supplies and soil degradation are going to be much harder to solve - hence the need for vertical farms like these.

AUS: Cucumber virus threatens $60M industry - HortiBiz

AUS: Cucumber virus threatens $60M industry - HortiBiz | Agricultural & Horticultural Industry News | Scoop.it

Nothing can be done to stop a plant disease which has devastated industries in other countries and is now in the Northern Territory, the Australian government says.

Cucumber Green Mottle Mosaic Virus (CGMMV) destroys the flesh of pumpkins, zucchinis, squashes, melons and cucumbers and has crippled industries in Asia, the Middle East and some parts of the US.

The virus was first detected last year at five farms in the Katherine region and has now spread to more than 21 farms.

It means the Territory's $60 million industry could be compromised.
