"En partenariat avec une enseignante d’Histoire-géographie, une séquence sur le fonctionnement des moteurs de recherche a été menée avec des élèves de seconde. A travers l’exemple de Google, l’enseignement portait à la fois sur des connaissances (culture numérique), des compétences (schéma, prise de notes, recherche d’informations) et des savoirs-êtres (esprit critique sur son environnement)."

Minecraft’s mainstream appeal may not lie in the poetry tucked away in an endgame few will see, but it is to be found in this poetry’s sentiment. Here is a game that enables humans to experience an accelerated form of existence—of dominion but also of stewardship. It makes clear the ancient ties between creativity and survival, and the wonder of collaboration, coöperation, and community, both in its world and in the reality on the other side of the screen. This is a recipe that demonstrates how video-game design, in the right hands, can be elevated to an art form every bit as strange and wonderful as any other, revealing deep truths about the human condition.

..."The science of learning is a relatively new discipline born of an agglomeration of fields: cognitive science, psychology, philosophy, neuroscience. Its project is to apply the methods of science to human endeavors—teaching and learning—that have for centuries been mostly treated as an art. As with anything to do with our idiosyncratic and unpredictable species, there is still a lot of art involved in teaching and learning. But the science of learning can offer some surprising and useful perspectives on how we educate young people and how we guide our own learning. And so: Eight Ways Of Looking At Intelligence..."

Never used Handbrake, the open-source, super-powerful tool for converting video? Shame on you. "For some bizarre reason, you've probably never used Handbrake, arguably the world's best video transcoder. Maybe you're too young to have ever used a DVD ("Grandpa, tell me about the time when Netflix sent those DVD things via that thing called 'the mail'"). But more likely you just didn't know that there was a free, open-source tool that you could use to rip your DVDs to your computer, your Android device or whatever you happen to own."
By Steve Boller "Lots people want to get started with game based learning, gamification and serious games in their training. We’ve been curating game related content for over a year and a half while conducting our own research and case studies. Here are 100 articles related to games and learning. Some of them are research-based, while others just offer an interesting perspective to spark discussion. Take what you need and share this with a colleague."

What our male correspondent found to like on the social network that mostly appeals to women.
Here’s a list of blogs that feed my teaching soul, hunger for knowledge, and need for deeper insights into teaching, learning and writing. There are so many wonderful blogs that it’s impossible to list them all here, so I’m listing the ones that have been most relevant to my own professional development. As such, they should be relevant to any teacher who wants to turn online teaching and/or publishing into a fully-fledged career.

"L'affaire PRISM n'en finit plus de faire du bruit. Les firmes nient en bloc, l'Administration Obama tente de calmer le jeu et les institutions européennes s'emparent de la question. Le décryptage d'Olivia Luzi, avocat associé au sein du cabinet Féral-Schuhl / Sainte-Marie."
By the late 20th century, a knowledge economy began to take hold. Workers became valued not for their labor, but for specialized knowledge, much of which was inscrutable to their superiors. Successful enterprises became learning organizations. Now, we are entering a new industrial revolution and machines are starting to take over cognitive tasks as well. Therefore, much like in the first industrial revolution, the role of humans is again being rapidly redefined. Organizations will have to change the way that they learn and managers’ primary task will be to design the curricula.

Thought that movies can be made only with fancy video software? Think again! This video here shows how you can make short movies using only graphics, clipart, animations and other PowerPoint elements.
The video focusses on digital storybooks, but this technique is quite useful to make short movies even for a business presentation. You could even pick up an animated PowerPoint presentation tool and use that as the basis of for your short 'animated' movie. Something like this doesn't take too much of your time and adding a story/movie to your presentation will add more appeal and pizzazz to your slides!
Technology and learning.....we continue to explore the best connections to student engagement......and even educator engagement
