My grandparents on my father's side, Nonnie and Gander, are apart of this trend, well into their 70's they remain independent and actually care for my great grandmother, Big Nonnie. Though Nonnie contributes ALOT to the medical strains this puts onto the country due to her poor and stubborn health. My Oma, my mother's mom, however is widowed and lives in an assisted living/ elderly apartment but doesn't yet need any real assistance, aside from being driven places by my aunts and (second) cousins, and is doing just fine.
