Aging in place: it's what most people say they want to do. Unfortunately, many communities are not prepared for an aging population. GIA is an inclusive and responsive membership organization comprised of all types of philanthropies with a common dedication to improving the experience of aging.

GIA has also partnered with the Pfizer Foundation on an age-friendly initiative called Community AGEnda: Improving America for All Ages. Its goal: to help America's communities become great places to grow up and to grow old: http://www.giaging.org/programs-events/community-agenda/ .

If Reason Dies, So Goes Civilization

If Reason Dies, So Goes Civilization | Aging Gracefully in a Village | Scoop.it

Is there an insoluble glue that sustains what we call civilization, without which everything disintegrates? Okay, beyond breathable air, climate dynamics, atomic valence, electricity or gravity. Ordained commandments by divisive religions or tribal cultures routinely cleave the unity they claim to promote (for the one “human family”).  National boundaries, amplified by domestic scrums, only provide the continuity of nasty, oppositional factions and parties. Oddly, the globe’s vast, international transport systems defeat time, distance, and space without fostering much species connectedness. We may live all breathe the same air, indeed the same molecules, but curiously we exhale segregation, even estrangement.

"Aging in Place Becoming the New Norm"

"Aging in Place Becoming the New Norm" | Aging Gracefully in a Village | Scoop.it

"The Centers for Disease Control defines aging in place as “the ability to live in one’s own home and community safely, comfortably and independently, regardless of age, income or ability level.” As more people live longer than ever before, we need to make aging in place a national priority. The quality of life for every generation depends on it."
