Report Reveals American Healthcare System Could Save BILLIONS Each Year Through Appropriate Use of Dietary Supplements

Report Reveals American Healthcare System Could Save BILLIONS Each Year Through Appropriate Use of Dietary Supplements | AGELESS REVOLUTION | Scoop.it

The report, titled: "Smart Prevention—Health Care Cost Savings Resulting from the Targeted Use of Dietary Supplements" was produced through a grant from the Council for Responsible Nutrition Foundation. As reported by Drug Store News:

“[The report] examined four different chronic diseases and the potential for healthcare cost savings when US adults 55 years and older, diagnosed with these chronic diseases, used one of eight different dietary supplement regimens.

It demonstrated that supplementation at preventive intake levels in high-risk populations can reduce the number of disease-associated medical events, representing the potential for hundreds of millions — and in some cases, billions — of dollars in savings.”

Supplements, well used, can prevent a lot of disease. That is real prevention, but it somehow falls outside of the remit of medicine in this day and age.

The worst thing of course is that those medical/pharmaceutical interests do everything to scare people (and governments) away from recommending the use of supplements or - God forbid - informing people about how to use them well.

Too Much Medicine Is Bad For Our Health - by Allen Frances MD

Too Much Medicine Is Bad For Our Health - by Allen Frances MD | AGELESS REVOLUTION | Scoop.it

“Medical science is making such remarkable progress that soon none of us will be well.” (Aldous Huxley)

The just completed conference ‘Preventing Over Diagnosis’ was easily the most important meeting I ever attended. Sponsored by the British Medical Journal, Consumer’s Reports, and Dartmouth and Bond Universities, the goal was to identify the excesses in medical care and to figure out how to correct them.

The evidence is compelling that we in the developed countries (especially the US) are overtesting for disease, overdiagnosing it, and overtreating. Wasteful medical care of milder or nonexistent problems does more harm than good to the individual patient, diverts scarce medical resources away from those who really need them, and is an unsustainable drain on the economy.

The causes of medical excess are many and powerful...

Medicine has nothing to do with health. It's only when we're sick we need it.

Health is maintained by eating, living, sleeping, moving the body in a way that actually supports the organism.

So yes - too much medicine is bad for us. We should learn how NOT to need any medicines...
