Two prominent African-American children's book authors, and at least one language arts teacher, say the lack of black characters in recent children's literature has series implications for students' understanding of the world.

disappointing trend --- without them does it lessen the likelihood of our children developing a love of reading.

 

i don't think so necessarily as I never saw a black character when i as growing up (aside from mark twain) but it would certainly be better if we had more....
