National Council for Women demands womens rights be ensured in new constitution

National Council for Women demands womens rights be ensured in new constitution | Africa: It's NOT a Country! | Scoop.it

"The National Council for Women (NCW) outlined some of the women’s rights it is demanding to be included in the new constitution during a press conference on Wednesday.

The demands include guaranteed gender equality, criminalization of gender discrimination, criminalizing the incitement of hatred or contempt of women by all political parties and religious institutions and the adoption of temporary measures of affirmative action, such as women’s quotas, to ensure equitable representation of women. They are also demanding that motherhood be recognized as a social function rather than a responsibility that lies on the woman’s shoulders alone." (al-Masry al-Youm, via Eypt.com)

African Leadership Academy

African Leadership Academy | Africa: It's NOT a Country! | Scoop.it

African Leadership Academy was founded in 2004 with the belief that ethical leadership is the key to transforming the African continent. Founders Fred Swaniker, Chris Bradford, Peter Mombaur, and Acha Leke sought to create an institution that would develop, connect, and support those individuals who will lead the continent toward a peaceful and prosperous future. In the two years that followed, the founding team built a powerful network of advisors and developed a robust, sustainable operating model for the Academy, a world-class, pan-African secondary institution on the outskirts of Johannesburg, South Africa.
