Emeric Nectoux's curator insight, February 18, 2:58 AM

Thanks to Richard Byrne / Beth Dichter for sharing a post on a new search engine, Athenir.

This visual search engine provides a view that may help learners discover additional search terms, allowing them to more easily find the information they are looking for. His post (linked to by clicking his name above) explains that this is just the beginning with additional items being added over the summer.

Providing learners access to search engines beyond Google, Bing and Yahoo is important. There are many search engines that are geared to younger students, that are more visual in nature...this list could go on. The visual component of this is colorful and allows learners to view their search in a format that many find helpful.

'Teachers must embrace new technology or risk becoming obsolete'

'Teachers must embrace new technology or risk becoming obsolete' | Affordable Learning | Scoop.it

'In the past I have always said that a computer could never replace a teacher, because learning was based on relationships. Today, I am not so sure'

One undeniable fact about teaching is that teachers not only need to be masters of content within their subject area, but they must also be masters of education as a subject. Another undeniable fact is that neither of those subject areas looks the same as when any teacher first mastered them.

One effect of the integration of technology into our society is that change in almost everything is happening at a pace never before experienced by mankind. As much as some people may yearn for the simpler times of the past, life will continue to move forward as the natural order of society requires.

Virtual Reality and Learning: The Newest Landscape for Higher Education

Virtual Reality and Learning: The Newest Landscape for Higher Education | Affordable Learning | Scoop.it
Education becomes truly interactive in a virtual setting. Foreign language learning generally requires total immersion. Virtual worlds enable the ability to place students from a French class, directly into “field trips” of, for example, tours of virtual Paris to see the sights and learn, in an amongst actual native speakers of the French language, as though they were actually there.

Teacher Feedback for Teacher Trainers

Teacher Feedback for Teacher Trainers | Affordable Learning | Scoop.it

As a developing teacher, there are lots of courses you can do and resources that you can access to aid your development, but when you become a teacher of teachers, this often isn't the case. Feedback especially, is an area in which the door is often literally and metaphorically closed and you get little feedback yourself on this area of practice.

This blog supports an ongoing conversation about the different needs and skills for supporting teachers leaders that are working with preservice teachers. One area we are looking at as a district is how do we create systematic support or training for cooperating teachers.
