The online tools in this articele can prove to be a boon to writers. While one of these helps with editing and correcting syntactical errors, the other helps provide an idea about the popularity of a particular topic or idea. Another provides information on adwords. I have personally used a few of these online tools, and sure they helped give me an sinsight into the mechanics of writing and publishing. Would certainly recommend these tools to aspiring writers!

The e-Assessment Toolkit exists to provide clear, current, practical information to e-assessment practitioners, or those thinking of adopting e-assessment. The toolkit offers useful tools and resources, helping users to develop and share their knowledge of e-assessment for effective implementation.

What is e-Assessment?

E-assessment as a single term describes a range of learning and assessment activities that have distinct meanings in their own contexts e.g. electronic marking, online assessment, computer-aided assessment and direct on-screen testing are all referred to as e-assessment.

The toolkit is for those involved in the management and delivery of e-assessment in centres offering accredited vocational qualifications and covers two key aspects of e-assessment: the management and delivery of e-testing and the use of e-portfolios for assessment.

A Comprehensive Framework For Student Motivation

A Comprehensive Framework For Student Motivation | Affordable Learning | Scoop.it

"When researching student motivation and gamification late last year, I came across the most comprehensive gamification framework I’ve ever seen. Developed by gamification expert Yu-kai Chou, it was an ambitious effort that distinguished black hat gamification (which is “bad”–think Farmville and Candy Crush) from white hat gamification (which is “good”–think Minecraft or even an ACT score)...

While it is designed not as an educational framework, but rather as a way to demonstrate gamification and its many strands, gamification is about human encouragement and motivation. For educators, student motivation is one of the pillars of a academic performance..."

Beth Dichter's curator insight, February 18, 8:35 PM

Terry Heick takes the image (as shown above) and relates the 8 key ideas to 8 "core drives of student motivation." Each one is described by Yu-kai Chou (who created this graphic)  and followed by a section called Educator Takeaways and a What if (which is related to education). The eight core drives are:

1) Epic Meaning & Calling

2) Development & Accomplishment

3) Empowerment of Creativity & Feedback

4) Ownership & Possession

5) Social Influence & Relatedness

6) Scarcity & Impatience

7) Unpredictability & Curiosity

8) Loss & Avoidance

The description provided by Yu-Kai Chou relates to gaming, but Terry Heick the links it to education in the Educator Takeways. He then provides a look at how this interpretation could help move us in new directions in our classroom. Why is this important? It has the potential to help us create better assessments, lessons, units and learning models. This is another post that provides much food for thought.

Halina Ostańkowicz-Bazan's curator insight, February 19, 9:34 AM

For educators, student motivation is one of the pillars of a academic performance. While the terms are sometimes misunderstood–and risk becoming cliche as we continue to talk about them topically rather than specifically–student motivation and student engagement are prime movers in the learning process. Without either, teaching is an uphill battle.

luc taesch's curator insight, February 22, 5:43 AM

6 Ways to Promote an Engaged Learning Environment

6 Ways to Promote an Engaged Learning Environment | Affordable Learning | Scoop.it

"There are a lot of myths surrounding the type of pedagogy and instructional strategies that promote knowledge building and higher order thinking in the classroom. In an engaging classroom, learning is messy. Students are engaged in inquiry processes that are meaningful to them, and socially constructing new knowledge bases that are also culturally relevant.

Despite the push for learning strategies that engage student, there still exists structures and cultures and frameworks that learning must be quiet, focused on the teacher as the main socializer of knowledge, and that worksheets and memorization, and compliance are necessary from students to achieve."
