46 Tools To Make Infographics In The Classroom

46 Tools To Make Infographics In The Classroom | Affordable Learning | Scoop.it

Infographics are interesting–a mash of (hopefully) easily-consumed visuals (so, symbols, shapes, and images) and added relevant character-based data (so, numbers, words, and brief sentences).

The learning application for them is clear, with many academic standards–including the Common Core standards–requiring teachers to use a variety of media forms, charts, and other data for both information reading as well as general fluency...

Stampsy - create digital multimedia content | Affordable Learning | Scoop.it
Stampsy is a sharing platform for people who produce compelling digital media content.

Whether you're a photographer, an editor or an art school student, Stampsy is the place where your creative ideas are shaped into beautiful digital experiences. We call them Stamps and they're a completely new online format for framing your talent and sharing content on the web. At a time of rapidly increasing opportunities for storytelling and visual expression, Stampsy is the place where digital content comes to life.

Via Baiba Svenca
Baiba Svenca's curator insight, May 2, 2:00 PM

Stampsy is a new iPad app for creating digital content. The steps are easy to follow - add images and text to your page using drag-and-drop method. Change colours or fonts, and design the page as you like.

The result you'll get is a linear presentation with great visual potential, perfect for storytelling purposes.

There is a small inconvenience though - you will need a Facebook account to use the application.

The app is free. Download it here https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/stampsy/id582398120?mt=8

ghbrett's curator insight, May 8, 9:32 AM

Stampsy is an interesting graphic tool currently for the iPad. It has a few necessry tools such as Headline, Text, Images, Colour Palette, Various Fonts, and best of all it is limited to 10 pages. If Powerpoints were limited to 10 pages I wonder how much real information would be lost? No doubt we'd see the important information. Check it out.

2 Potential Scenarios For Online Professional Development

The big news is about online professional development. But it's nothing new. In fact, the newest model is already outdated.

Nik Peachey's curator insight, May 4, 3:15 PM

Have to say I agree with a lot of this, especially this part about PLNs "Social learning through PLNs has become a tour de force and it’s not run by any one company. It’s not something to be monetized and refined. It’s rough, all over the place, and always changing. That’s why it’s so great. PLNs, to me, are the future of online professional development."

The principle of 'one size does not fit all' applies as much to adult learning as for our students. We need to adopt a blended 'fit for purpose & audience' approach to professional development.

Narrated Slideshow – Screencast Tool Comparison | Affordable Learning | Scoop.it

A screencast is a digital recording of a computer screen with audio narration. Screencasts can include telestrator (‘John Madden pen’) annotations. Narrated slideshows include audio recordings synchronized to images without hand-drawn annotations.

Screencasts and narrated slideshows can be created with two kinds of tools:

1. Browser-based: Create an account on the website and use a modern web browser like Google Chrome or FireFox to record, save and share it.

2. Client-based: Download and install software on a computing device to record and save.

iPads in the classroom – A development of a taxonomy for the use of iPads in schools

The investigation shows that almost all objectives, teaching tasks and concepts of the curriculum can be promoted with the aid of tablet computers. Nevertheless, a lot of prerequisites in terms of hardware and software are required for a successful integration of tablets. In addition, there are some drawbacks, such as the lack of teacher training and slower text production.

Margaret Driscoll's comment, May 21, 11:53 AM
Quote from article: "In the final analysis, I do not think that there are differences in the way we learn as adults, or kids, but rather the differences lie in the opportunities afforded to learn. If we respected kids more as learners, they might be more self-directed and motivated in their learning. If they are allowed to participate in their learning, they might take more ownership."
